Poll Finds US Voters Want Female President
I found this interesting and wanted to share. Sorry if it's a dupe.

A nationwide poll of voters has found that more than six in 10 voters believe the United States is ready for a female president. The poll, conducted by the Siena College Research Institute and sponsored by Hearst Newspapers, found that an even greater majority of 81 percent said they would vote for a woman for president whether the country is ready or not.

“The results are fascinating and very encouraging for women – and all Americans who want the nation’s highest office held by the best people, regardless of their gender,” said Dr. Douglas Lonnstrom, director of the Siena Research Institute, in a press statement. Marie Wilson, president of The White House Project, a group whose goal is to put more women into leadership positions, states, “I can tell you from our work that there's a different kind of reality to these polls than there was when we started six years ago. There's been a national conversation about there being a woman president, and there are actually women who have been willing,” reports Newsday. In a recent Women’s E-news commentary, Wilson asserted, “We will have a woman as president in my lifetime.”

2. I don't know
I highly doubt if this country would elect a woman at this point. I see no problem with it but if the Dems put a woman up as a canidate then I think we are looking at 4 more Repug years.

This country is so damn macho oriented with it's love of war and violence. Sickening really.

3. I find this full-court media press for Hillary Clinton unsettling
Not that I don't find the idea of a female president to be very appealing; I do. But it just seems like the whore media has been ramming Hillary down our throats for the last week, and my question is: why?

Call me a crazy Freeper, but I have learned over the last few years that if the mainstream media say one thing, then you are 100% assured that what's really going on is the exact opposite. It's that bad in this country.

7. i agree 100 per cent
Hillary would provide a field day for the repug hate machine. So the evil corporate generals have instructed the pres. Our country seems so corrupt . sigh

14. I think it's a great idea.

I think it's a great idea. When Bill was president, even though they played it doen, Hillary was co-president. Imagine having them both back as co-presidents again.

If the rw run Condi, then we don't have to worry about sexism since there won't be a choice. I'd love to see Billy-bob (or my brother!) have to vote for a woman president.

18. the idea of a woman president is good
i think its obvious that there are and have been many women who give their .02 in the WH. But the public and certainly not the RW public will never let it happen.

20. unless it's condi.
so in a way - to further a cause i think they should run Condi. I won't vote for her, but apparently i'm not in the majority anyways.

22. i don't.
not because hilary's a woman, but because she has shown herself willing to move further and further to the right, to get "in".

i'm barely left of center, but i think we as a party need to clearly define how we're different from republicans. Hilary hasn't been helping that cause.

barbara Boxer on the other hand, is my kind of democrat.

either way - don't fall for the idea of Hilary being the ideal candidate in '08. she is not OUR ideal candidate - she is the right-wing's ideal democratic candidate. if anybody will help them hold down the WH for another 4 years, it's hilary. bet money on it.

12. The media wants a catfight, plain and simple. Politics as
reality show. Who cares about the state of the nation and that whoever gets elected to that position is responsible for making decisions that affect the lives of millions of people. God, the media has become so ugly.

5. Reminds me of Novak and Bow-tie Boy (Carlson) of CNN
trying to push Sharpton prior to 11/2 elections. Perhaps Hillary is being 'pushed' because the pugs know she will never win. Be wary.

6. Hmmm - "jack-boots" and all?
.
.
.

Lawdy knows no MAN could get away with wearing jack-boots in the political arena

That outfit I saw Condi in just looks TOO much like an SS uniform

And Granpappy Bush was in bed with the Nazi's (see "Prescott Bush" below)

Hmmmm :freak:

OH

Would Condi make Junior Sec. of State? :bounce:

SCARY thought!

8. if "people are ready for a female president"
I fear it's only some self serving impulse to prove to the rest of the world that we're more evloved than our recent actions on the world stage suggest we are. I think we're embarrassed as a country and steaming full ahead to elect a woman, instead of the best qualified candidate (male female or chimpanzee), would just be a fad self image quick fix and wouldn't get us the best person for the job or improve the world's perception of us any. Quite the contrary I think they'd see right through it as I have (the Shadow knows, ya know) and pity us even more than they do now as they continue to plan our economic and military overthrow.

15. "as they continue to plan our economic and military overthrow."
.
.
.

I don't really think that anyone has plans for a "military" overthrow

Economics will do it

Admittedly, Russia and China could do it, but they so far have not flexed their military might, nor have they imposed it upon the rest of the world -

BUT - they might make an exception for that young upstart known as the USA

Crippling the USA economically would be much more effective, and longer lasting

AND

environmentally friendly!

We don't need to spread Depleted Uranium all over the USA to defeat it, as the USA has been doing (spreading radioactive Depleted Uranium all over) since Gulf War 1

USA's use of DU is disgusting to say the least - leaving long lasting poisons in their wake - -

The world will find out soon enough the effects of the USA's sickening weapons, and all hell will break loose

The USA is paving its own road into "irrelevancy"

And I for one will be happy to live long enough to see that day when the USA is branded officially as THE rogue nation of the world, and shunned by the rest

And ur dumb voters can watch their sitcoms in darkness for all I care

sorry

just another rant

:eyes:

9. Bigots don't always answer poll questions honestly
Take David Duke for example. Each time he has run for office he has recieved a signigicantly larger share of the votes than polls would suggest. Why? Because people don't want to admit to a stranger over the phone that they are a racist.

11. I am NOT a racist for wondering about this, but
being from the South, and knowing the bubbas as well as I do, was wondering about a Hillary/Condi matchup. As much as the Southern repugs hate liberals, I don't know if they could bring themselves to vote for Condi in the privacy of the voting booth. To me, it seems as if racism is always simmering just below the level of most political discourse here in the deep South. I can imagine many of them terribly conflicted and just staying home on election day (a good thing, of course.) What thinks yall?

16. These folks seem to just love Clarence Thomas, Walter
Williams, Armstrong Williams, Condi and I don't know if their underlying racism would keep them from voting for someone. My spouse agrees with your premise that these folks would never vote for a black person for president, but I'm not so sure.

I also agree with your spouse.
