Judge: Pharmacist Should Be Reprimanded (not filling birth control Rx)
http://www.baytownsun.com/wire.lasso?report=/dynamic/stories/C/CONTRACEPTIVE_COMPLAINT?SITE=TXBAY&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT

A Roman Catholic pharmacist who blocked a woman's attempt to fill a prescription for birth control pills should be reprimanded and required to attend ethics classes, a judge ruled Monday.

Administrative Law Judge Colleen Baird recommended the punishment for Neil Noesen of St. Paul, Minn., who said it would be a sin under his religion to provide a contraceptive.

He refused in July 2002 to fill the woman's prescription himself or transfer it to another pharmacy.

Noesen's attorney, Krystal Williams-Oby, said the finding was unfair to her client and other pharmacists who have a personal objection to dispensing birth control. She said Wisconsin law does not address the issue, nor do state rules established by the Pharmacy Examining Board.

1. Mind boggling. Why did this guy
ever go to school to be a pharmacist? I'm not religious, but my mind just cannot grasp this thinking.

6. People who can't park their prejudices at the door
should not go into any aspect of health care.

I worked with fundies at my last job. They were wrong about most things, but they were able to care for the despised in our society, including transsexuals, gang members, prison inmates, and despised minorities, with the same care they afforded to white suburbanites. They may have thought all these people had a one way ticket to hell, but sending them there early with an earful of Jesus was simply not part of the job.

This is the attitude all health care workers need to have. Anyone who is too pure to administer any prescribed treatement to any human being should find another line of work.

I think these sanctimonious sacks of shit belong in prison for attempting to practice medicine without a license for seconguessing a reasonable and prudent order from a doctor.

3. His behind should be fired
His job is to fill prescriptions that customers bring in from their doctors, or the doctors call in. If he doesn't want to do that, he should be in some other line of work.

It's really scary that people like him aren't being fired.

9. He's also forgetting that ...
BCP's are also used to treat a variety of diseases, polycistic ovarian disease for one.

What gets me is not that he didn't file it; okay, fine against your religion, whatever; but that he prevented it from being filled by anyother pharmacist. That's what really pisses me off.
