Batten down the hatches...Martha's getting out!!!
:eyes:

Look for the news to cover this ad nauseum and ad infinitum. They've limited her ability to earn profits to $900,000 a year. She'll wear an ankle "bracelet" while on house arrest during the coming months.

Meanwhile, we will hear little or nothing about Ken Lay/Enron who duped thousands of people out of their earned retirements. Nor will we hear much about the 1,500 dead soldiers, the dropping military enrollments, the fudged unemployment numbers (did you know unemployment filings were "down"...:eyes:) or Halliburton/KBR's theft of our tax dollars.

But make sure you protect the kids from Martha now!

6. By the time they finish with Martha, every body'll think she gypped Enron
And Kenny? Well his lawyers just got a one-year reprieve to present their case to judges--until Jan. 06. Justice is swift in Amerikkka--for the underserving.

8. How can they limit her income?
That doesn't sound right, fair or even (like it should be) Constitutional to me. Semes to me she's already made way more than that, on paper anyway, from the price of her stock soaring as a result of what she did and it's now over -- back up to IPO levels I heard tonight.

12. Isn't that ridiculous? You know she'll make more than that,
her stock is soaring. I guess they'll just confiscate it for Bush's war(s).

10. Martha Stewart: Political prisoner.
Having done time for a crime she may or may not have committed, I now have the uptmost respect for Martha Stewart.

I continue to, and probably always will, loathe Kenneth Lay, et al.

11. I hope we see a little different Martha Stewart
I read her Christmas letter that showed promise. If she continues to speak up and champion prison reform, I will give her a free ride. If not, it will become a talking point that I will dredge up whenever I hear her name.

......

Dear Friends,

When one is incarcerated with 1,200 other inmates, it is hard to be selfish at Christmas -- hard to think of Christmases past and Christmases future -- that I know will be as they always were for me -- beautiful! So many of the women here in Alderson will never have the joy and wellbeing that you and I experience. Many of them have been here for years -- devoid of care, devoid of love, devoid of family.

I beseech you all to think about these women -- to encourage the American people to ask for reforms, both in sentencing guidelines, in length of incarceration for nonviolent first-time offenders, and for those involved in drug-taking. They would be much better served in a true rehabilitation center than in prison where there is no real help, no real programs to rehabilitate, no programs to educate, no way to be prepared for life "out there" where each person will ultimately find herself, many with no skills and no preparation for living.

I am fine, really. I look forward to being home, to getting back to my valuable work, to creating, cooking, and making television. I have had time to think, time to write, time to exercise, time to not eat the bad food, and time to walk and contemplate the future. I've had my work here too. Cleaning has been my job – washing, scrubbing, sweeping, vacuuming, raking leaves, and much more. But like everyone else here, I would rather be doing all of this in my own home, and not here -- away from family and friends.

I want to thank you again, and again, for your support and encouragement. You have been so terrific to me and to everyone who stood by me. I appreciate everything you have done, your emails, your letters, and your kind, kind words.

Happy holidays,

Martha Stewart

14. Here's what I love about her work
EVERYONE who has a place to live at all has to take care of it. EVERYONE who is not starving has to eat. If we are fortunate enough, sometimes we get together with friends. Martha brings a higher standard of living to what we have to do anyway, without necessarily adding great expense. You can throw things together, or you can do it with love and care.

One of her cookbooks changed my entire view of cooking and eating. I watched many Martha Stewart programs which were utterly enchanting, informative, instructive, etc. and raised my view of my daily life and what I can do with it.

Some of what she teaches and suggests isn't my cup of tea. Some of it that isn't my cup of tea is still very interesting -- and sometimes educational -- to be informed about.

She is big on those things that are enduring parts of Nature (raising chickens, for example, and gardens including vegetables, flowers and herbs -- and USING them), and gardening organically. Having someone of her stature promote organic gardening is fabulous, IMO. She is also big on those things which have been enduring and enriching parts of our culture -- how things are made, extraordinarily fine craftsmanship in thins like basketweaving or jewelrymaking, etc., some of them nearly lost arts.

I'm not sure I'd like her personally, and most of us have heard she's not easy to work for (as if anyone is perfect). But I greatly value the work she has done especially because I have benefitted from it directly.

16. Some ladies think they must "compete" with her....
And they're driven to frustration.

But it's obvious she's got lots of helpers. She's quite entertaining & even I have picked up a few useful hints from her shows. (Often while dialing for pizza!)
