Greenspan is the poster boy for "hackery"
I'm glad Reid called him out on this. He is starting to mumble and drool all over himself. Today he calls for support for privatization and a consumption tax all in one breath. A couple of years ago he was warning us about the danger of a budget surplus. Only the media takes him seriously, and he's rich enough not to take anything seriously, I guess.

I doubt he'll lose any credibility in ther media though. it would be like dissing god.

1. If you only read "Perfectly Legal" by David Cay Johnston Ch 7 and 8
you find Greenspan helped Reagan's 1981 tax cuts get paid for ... now fast forward to 2001 Bush tax cuts of $1.8 trillion and you see that's about the amount to be 'carved out' of existing Social Security. Hmmmm.

Also, you'll want to read Common Dream's article "Greenspan Shrugged", which explains his ideology of deregulation, which is now costing billions in ID thefts due to the repeal of Glass Stegall Act's prohibitions on banking being repealed. Now your information, thanks to Al, is sent all over the world without any legal recourse for you. Greenspan is a national security risk !

2. But how is he still credible?
That's the gist of my reason for posting on him. He's like a God to most people it seems, including oue reps. Everyone in the media also waits with baited (bated?) breath when he is going to say something.

And then he soews his crap on us. And everyone says "thank you." I think it's time to expose him as the snake oil salesman he is.

3. Correct. Mostly he needs to be translated back into English...

his testimony is always an 'oracle at delphi' kind of whattdidhesay ? huh ?

He wants laissez faire capital markets, yet whenever there's a LongTermCapitalManagement fiasco he requires the governments rapid response teams to come clean up the mess. Now with derivatives and all the new financial 'products' out there it is beginning to be easier for bad things to happen. Regulation of markets is a GOOD THING yet he tries to prevent any of that and damages the infrastructures that would show sane restraint !

My point is that he isn't credible; he's a part of the rightwingnut ideological crew closely related to the Chicago school of supply-side wingnuts, who provide ideological cover for the political side's shenanigans. That pretty much defines hackery as Sen Reid laid it out there...the media has yet to pick up on that (and won't) since the corporate media protects their own.

BTW, here's that commondreams article Greenspan Shrugged
www.commondreams.org/views/041800-106.htm

and I've nominated this for the greatest page; people need to know this info.
