The Draft, the Media and Rove...
Edited on Fri Mar-04-05 05:07 AM by LaPera
orchestrating the fascist movement that’s overtaking us.

One step at a time, with a diversion here -- Iraq, Judicial nominees, a scandal there, interchanging stories to disguise the tactics they are using to get their legislation through, which the willingly manipulated corporate media is centered around, the bullshit tabloid story of the day... that the corporate media more than obligingly throws at us daily.

Rove and the media will use these same proven methods when it comes to reinstating the draft. After enough polling and data, that satisfies Rove, and he is convinced most American will deem the draft necessary...Even if it takes … another direct attack on the US, phony Iran nuclear stories, North Korea, etc. whatever it takes.

Bush corporate imperialism and his quest for world domination dictates a draft.

It will be the republican Congress, with support from probably many "patriotic" Democrats who will be the ones to re-initiate the draft, not the Bush administration. Of course Bush will be in complete support, and will sign it into law.

Whatever it takes to get people to accept a draft with minimum outcry. One thing we can always be sure of…the media will parrot the White House’s daily talking points & memos… major “news” stories will be breaking -- tragedies occurring and smokescreens everywhere, the American people will feed on it while in fear.

How else can their draft occur?

Rove knows the last thing his fascist takeover needs are the masses united in demonstrations, hundreds of thousands of people marching in the streets daily?

Rove will play it…as always, three steps ahead and one step at a time... keep the people passive and stupid, thank you whore media, with an excess of smokescreens. lies & diversions.

The republicans have all the time in the world. They are in no hurry, it took them forty years to get here and they are not going to rush it now.

We all know the draft is coming. Rove knows we know it. Just as Rove knows the draft has the potential to be a uniting, rallying issue. Rove knows he has to minimizing the impact.

Still, Rove continues to get issue after issue, nominee after nominee, legislation after legislation, as we sleep, in a series of steps to complete iron-grip control.

When we genuinely do get something of substance to expose the lying & manipulation...the media runs and plays with the story until the stories dies a slow death and were led onto something else.

How many times have you read, here on DU and elsewhere "This is it, this is what's going to bring Bush down" and then what always happens? So many will write, Rove ain't shit, Rove is an asshole, Rove is no genius, Rove makes so many mistakes, and "look at this and look at that".

Rove plays us like the master fiddler that he is.

Rove is an lying, evil, sick, ugly, a wicked little man. However, it can't be denied, his ruthlessness, his cunning and diabolical strategy has been more than effective.

All the while we continue to slowly but steadily move down the fascist path Rove & the republicans have in store for us.

My point is simply this...If we are all hoping and waiting that the reinstatement of the draft will be the final straw, the dividing point, the, they finally went too far issue, the thing that's really going to get us off our asses and onto the streets.

Well...

(Just some late night stoney thoughts).

1. That's not the only thing they are going to try and sneak through.
We may all be in a tight place soon. Most people just go on with their lives and say "everything will be just fine, you worry to much". I wonder how many people in 1938 Berlin thought the same thing when people started to worry that something might not be completely alright.

3. I wonder if Bush has ever contemplated
what will happen to him when his usefulness to Rove is done.

By then, they've will have gotten a complete republican fascist corporate structure in place and they will have stolen billions? (Trillions)?

8. But this a is AMERICA silly............
things like that just don't happen in AMERICA! There is a naivete in this country that keeps people from thinking OUR government would ever do anything so wildly corrupt. America is the beacon of freedom and god and all that is good in the world, correct? That's the pervasive attitude of the majority of Americans.
It's akin to the frog in the pot analogy. They turn up the heat gradually so they don't even know they're being boiled alive.
Yep, Americans are so freaking naive and trusting of their government that soon we're all going to be in a pot of boiling water and wondering how the hell we got there.
I'll be in Canada, watching Americans I used to know and love boiling in the fascist pot provided by the bush administration. I'm not relishing the thought, but I can visualize it happening.

9. Oh, they'll beat the drums of war and..................
stir the American public into a nationalistic frenzy, a blood lust that can ONLY be quelled by soldiers marching off to war, to kill those who are trying to make us, US, AMERICANS, uncomfortable.

Remember what it was like shortly after 9/11? People wanted vengeance, it didn't really matter who (as is evidenced by the Iraq invasion). They just wanted their pound of flesh. Young men with hate and fear in their hearts enlisted in record numbers. Do you think that a carefully orchestrated attack on US soil or assets abroad wouldn't produce the same, or even greater reaction?

They'll have the American people BEGGING for a draft. Revenge is a powerful motivator. The neo-cons will have to manipulate the forces that will bring about this blood lust, but they've been doing a damn good job of manipulating everyone so far. It's not beyond them to try and actually succeed in this endeavor, trust me.

11. Did you see Lou Dobbs last night?
Edited on Fri Mar-04-05 07:23 AM by fasttense
He had a group (journalist, politicians) on to talk about a Washington Monthly story that said the United States needs the draft. They are of course not calling it a draft. Oh no, they are calling it National Service (very fatherland like of them). In this National Service everyone over 18 (I assume they get to finish high school) has to sign up for two to four years of National service to include working with the poor or doing military service. This includes men and women. This is suppose to apply to all, not just the poor and middle class. This is in response to the Army and Marines not making their shipping goals this year.

But you know darn well, b*sh's twins will have a built in loop hole. Most Congress men's children will have a built in loop hole and the rich of course will be able to buy their way out of it. You know if the military does not have enough they will pull them from the community service volunteers like the Army pulled them from the other services when the draftees were signing up for the Navy and Air Force in too large of numbers.

Stand by, the draft is coming. Disguised as some kind of "national support the fatherland, forced volunteer community service" BS.

Keep an eye open for when Congress passes this legislation because I'm going to send my son and daughter to Canada or maybe Europe. I'll be damn if they will work for the neocons for free.

12. Not necessarily. This isn't 1968.
I can't see a conveyer belt of young men going to their deaths without an outcry. There will be protests. There will be violence in the streets.

And what does Rove intend to do? Send the National Guards into the inner cities and arrest the draftees on the street (or in the prisons) for refusing to show up for basic training? Threaten them with the prospect of no jobs and an arrest record if they don't cooperate and die for their country?

And then there are the parents who are old enough to remember Vietnam. Do you think they are going to relinquish their children to * and Rove and Rumsfeld? Do think they're going to hope that it's someone else's child, not theirs?

No, things are going to be much more different this time around.

Americans have lost their backbone and will roll over for the neocons like young puppies.

15. This is different, trust me. There's too much at stake here for
closing the collective eyes of a generation. This will literally hit home in many families. Body bags. Yellow ribbons. Blue star mothers. If really nobody is rushing off to volunteer to fight in Iraq at this moment, why would anyone wait to be called to do the same thing (rhetorical statement).

This is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo utterly ridiculous. This will never happen because it's POLITICAL SUICIDE. THE REPUBLICANS WON'T STAND FOR IT.

REALITY: Please remember that there are MAJOR SCANDALS that are on the way and they won't have time to think about anything else.

PLEASE DON'T POST RIDICULOUS MATERIAL.

17. I'm not sure who you are referring to as ridiculous but
There are a lot of people who think the draft will come back and it's not just on the left. Here is a link and Lou's intro to the segment.

"DOBBS: Our military, without question, is stretched almost to the breaking point by wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and the global war on radical Islamist terrorism. The latest Pentagon figures show the military finding it much harder to recruit enough troops. For some military expert, that means Congress has only one choice, that is, to reintroduce the draft.

Writing in the magazine Washington Monthly, Paul Glastris and Phillip Carter declare that America cannot long remain a super power with merely an all volunteer military. Paul Glastris, Phillip Carter join me now.

Also joining us, gentleman, if it's OK with you, is General David Grange, our military analyst. We're a little bit pinched for time, do you mind a 4-way discussion here, if you will?"

18. People tend to put a lot of time and money into their kids
it's the one thing they will go to the wall for. Bill OReilly told Michael Moore he would have no problem going to Iraq himself (don't see him there) but refused to offer up his kid.

One "talking point" I use for upper middle class smoothies who think they have it all figured out. So many people have told me: my son has gotten his passport, he's ready to go to England, Canada, where ever the moment the draft starts.

"Oh," I say "What do you think all this heightened border security is all about? It's not to keep people out of America. It's to keep certain people IN America
