What's the "big deal", Antonin? Turn your head away if you don't like it!

The eightfold path: Wisdom, ethical conduct, mental development
1. Right View
2. Right Intention
3. Right Speech
4. Right Action
5. Right Livelihood
6. Right Effort
7. Right Mindfulness
8. Right Concentration

2. I LIKE IT!
And unlike the ten commandments, it's POSITIVE - a TO DO list, rather than a bunch of "thou shalt nots".

If they have the right to put their crap up, every other religious group should INSIST on an equivalent display.

5. There you are!
I searched eightfold rather than 8-fold to find out who planted the seed! You have now been attributed in the OP :toast:

4. I second that.
My daughter is studying world cultures in 6th grade this year - public school in CA - and I found the chapter on Buddhist philosophy exceptionally interesting and inspiring.

All Americans would benefit greatly by being exposed to a broader world view. Instead we seem to be becoming more narrow minded and provincial by the day - and the repukes wouldn't have it any other way.

24. They have also studied
Hindu belief and are currently taking a look at the teachings of Confucius as well as his opponents. The next chapter covers the ancient Israelites.

The early chapters in the book covered evolution, and flat out states that skeletal remains of human ancestors have been found that are over 3 million years old. (The fundie types might be outraged elsewhere, but around here no one complains.)

It's all thoughtfully packaged, and I'm learning a lot. Never had a course like this.

7. The best way for the judges to get the 10 commandments
into our courts is to have them tattooed on there foreheads. That would show if they really mean it.
Which one of you judges wants to step up to the plate and be first?

8. Perfect. They'd put it up, too. Know why?
All the RIGHT references.

ZOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMM! That's the sound of it going RIGHT over their heads.

It'd be nice to see MY "religion" represented, too.

9. As a matter of fact,
this is probably the best way to resolve this tempest in a tea pot!
Put up every recognized religions version of their Ten Commandments or equivalent.......yeah, thats the ticket :)

10. Very nice. Sums up guidelines for a positive life and world.
But they're all positive, how are we gonna keep people down if we tell them to be nice in a positive way rather than telling them no no no and making them figure it out so we can punish them? (sarcasm).

This is very nice, thank you

12. It would be cool for the Interfaith Alliance to appear before SCOTUS,...
,...and point out that they helped build this country, too. So, if the 10 Cs are to be erected on government property,....well, all other religious icons and edicts should be erecte, too!!!

btw: I love the "Eightfold Path".

15. You're making their heads explode
They like the one man and one woman bit. On the other hand, there are big tits exposed and they can't tell if they are male or female.

20. Agreed. How about Hammurabi's Code while we are at it?
Why not just put every belief system's code there as well?

Better yet, let's value the Constitution that reflects our culture's beliefs. It's worked pretty well for almost 300 years.

SMaybe ther is a squabble about the 2nd amendment, but it really is pretty minor in the broad scope. Otherwise, I think everyone but the neoCons are pretty happy with it...

Oops--well, there you go.

21. Why not a very peaceful protest wherein representatives of any
belief system who can make it offers their codes on signs?

Just stand there quietly and peacefully and let the signs tell the story?

23. If people began to demand, LOUDLY AND INCESSANTLY
that ALL religions were treated equally, pretty soon the theocrats would have to give it up and realize the wisdom of the separation of church and state.

Depending what the SC decision is, I think I'm going to rally some people on this.

25. The time has come
No more making second class citizens out of people who don't happen to believe in the same things that the 'majority' does.
