Attention bankruptcy lawyers and those wanting to file for bankruptcy!
As most of you know, I'm a paralegal who knows bankruptcy and collections laws inside and out. I'm also trying to start my own paralegal business.

As you also know, the proposed changes in the bankruptcy laws will have a horrendous affect on those most needing it, the sick, the elderly, those who lost jobs, even families with crushing medical bills due to cancer or other illnesses. Only 5% of those filing bankruptcy are what we'd term irresponsible deadbeats, it's been statistically shown. The rest of the filings are due to divorce, job loss or injury, and medical bills from serious or severe illnesses. Yet you'd never know that the way congress is acting. They give themselves the best health insurance in the world, courtesy of the very taxpayers who do NOT have that luxury, then refuse to allow any amendments in the law for medical expenses and illness.

They are also making the debtor's lawyer actually liable for the accuracy of the debtor's financial information as set forth in the debtor's bankruptcy petition, even though the debtor has always been held responsible for that, as they should be. You don't see them holding creditor's attorneys responsible for the accuracy of the creditor's information about the debtor, but never mind, this is republicans we're talking about here. Most debtor's attorneys I know, and I know a lot, are either going to get out of their practices altogether or are going to bite the bullet and start representing creditors, since they simply cannot afford to be liable for information that they have no real way of knowing is truly correct or not. And most of them are very, very bitter about it.

So, my proposal is this: Anyone needing to file bankruptcy needs to do it NOW. I will assist you or a friend/family member who needs it at a greatly reduced cost from what I'd normally charge to assist in preparing bankruptcy petitions and the follow-up work. My silent "partner" in my paralegal venture is my former boss, an attorney, who will be available to me should I have any legal questions or need him to review something.

And DU bankruptcy attorneys: You will likely be dealing with a veritable flood of bankruptcy filings the next couple of months. I will also be happy to assist you with that for a greatly reduced fee than I would normally charge attorneys for my services.

Please PM or email me, and we can get started. I cannot emphasize enough that if you need to file bankruptcy, or even if you're just thinking about it, you need to do it NOW. That's so important.

Mods: Can we make this a sticky for the next several days?

1. I filed in January. Thought I'd beat the rush. Didn't expect the repubs
to get on the changes so fast.

Maybe we should make congress and the white house responsible for any misstatements about the treasury they make. For instance - the DOD lost 1 trillion dollars - take it out of Bush's pockets.

2. Those who are close to filing bankruptcy and have been doing everything
they can to keep from filing bankruptcy should consider filing, too. There will be no opportunity once this law goes into effect.

3. Exactly!
That's what I'm trying to get through to people and why I want to help, because while it's a fairly simple legal process to me, I know that it's not to most non-legal people.

5. Please make sure that an attorney from your state
at least looks at the papers before you file. State exemption laws vary very widely and it's critical that you claim the right exemptions.

7. Oh, definitely,
I'll make sure my attorney partner and I check the state laws.

9. I tried to respond to your email
but I get a "message delivery failure," something about "client host blocked...dynamic IP address.." Am I doing something wrong?

10. Did you email me directly
or try to respond to the email I sent? If you tried to respond to the email I sent, that might be why it happened. Try emailing me directly at the email I gave you; if that doesn't work, I'll email you another address.

11. I tried both...
It was a problem on my end (my husband said it was because we have a server without a "static IP address" --or something-- that caused your service to block it-- I don't know-- I re-sent it through my MSN account. I think it went through, now. It didn't get returned this time.

14. Just wondering
Did you get the permission of the administrators here to openly solicit business? I'm sure it would be nice to get your business post as a sticky on the top of the forum.
