Did they QUIT teaching Driver's Ed?
I'm almost becoming a road-rager. These driving fucktwits, fucktards and fucktrixies are literally driving me insane! Whether they are on the phone, on drugs or on a Big Mac, they drive too slow, too fast, don't use signals, ignore stop signs, mosey through red lights, straddle two lanes, go the wrong way on one-way streets and don't know how to MERGE.

And to top it off, I turned on the radio and heard this on NPR just now: "The Italian journalist held hostage in Iraq was released today, then shot in the head at a checkpoint, apparently by US soldiers."

A loud "HAH!!" erupted from my mouth. I know that is bad. I was under the influence of road-rage-stress-syndrome. (I hope the journalist lives.)

Are drivers this bad everywhere?

1. In NJ, Drivers Ed no longer involves any automobile.
You just sit in a classroom, watch a bunch of videos about how expensive car insurance is, and then take a multiple choice test about whether an RV is more likely to tip over during a sharp turn than a sports car (actual question from my 1994 test).

18. They teach it here
I took the class about a year or two ago. The first day we watched video's and all that and then the other four days we did driving. :)

re: bad drivers, they seem to be plentiful everywhere....it's got to have something to do with mass insanity or something similar.

5. I was on news blackout all day until 3:00 pm when I heard about it.
She clearly said "shot in the head." Oh I'm so glad that bad liberal man over at CNN RESIGNED IN DISGRACE because he had the freaking backbone to say out loud our soldiers seem to be killing a large number of journalists.

Yes, mass insanity, good answer ewagner! It does explain it no?

4. Did you ever notice,
that anyone driving faster than you is an idiot, and anyone driving slower than you is a moron. If they don't get out of your way, then they are an asshole.

Have a beer and relax!

7. Um, did you ever notice it's not JUST ME?
Edited on Fri Mar-04-05 05:35 PM by Ripley
Faster than me would be 70 on a 45 road and the person is coming upon you very fast then swerves at the last moment to zip around you. Slower than me means 40 mph on a 70 mph HIGHWAY...ever come up on that?

Yeah, I know what you mean about just going with the flow. But the roads have become decidedly worse in that people seem to rarely obey, yes OBEY what I thought were predesignated rules of the road. Do we want to just sip a beer and hope for the best?

YAY!! ROAD ANARCHY! Oh brother, now there will probably be a new DU group for that.

6. Our county does not have drivers ed
It's a big gripe with me. When I went to high school one of our classes was drivers ed in place of PE for 9 weeks. We also had to be 16 and complete drivers ed before we could even apply for a drivers permit. Here in Florida, the day you turn 15 you can go to the DMV and take the test for a learners permit. Then it is up to the parents to teach their kids to drive. To put it bluntly, it's scary. Drivers Ed cars were specially set up to allow the instructor to take over if an emergency happened. Not so with the standard family car. My son only goes out with one of us. If there are kids in the car, he's not driving. Whatcha gonna do? It's not the same as it used to be.

Edited on Fri Mar-04-05 05:09 PM by rkc3
These are exactly my thoughts about drivers - especially the teenagers who did two laps through my front yard the other night.

BTW, I get fucktwits and fucktards (which I use liberally), but what are fucktrixies?

10. Oh, that.
I don't know where my brain got that fucktrixie thingy. I think it's because I saw a nutcase driver driving THE WRONG WAY on a four-lane divided road once and she looked like someone I used to work with a long time ago whose name was Trixie. She made great chocolate-nut muffins, but she was STOOPID and was the poster-child for all those "females can't drive and have to say things like 'honey, I wrecked the car' jokes."

I don't need your brain any more...here, take it back! :)

9. Drivers are bad everywhere
I live in Colorado and it's just awful here. Although once in awhile you get someone that lets you into traffic or who actually obeys a school zone speed limit, and your faith in humanity is restored for a few minutes at least...

11. I think they should ticket anyone talking on a cell phone while
driving. I think this is a much worse problem than drunk drivers today.

12. Yes, they are that bad everywhere
I've been making frequent commutes recently from my home in the suburbs to downtown (about a 20-mile drive) and I have noticed a distinct change in my attitude and level of patience since doing so.

Driving skills and etiquette are getting worse by the hour. I'm just waiting for the day when I get rear-ended by a tailgater (and I tend to do a usual 5 to 10 mph OVER the posted speed limit, so I'm not a Sunday driver). I will sue that driver clean out of existence. Guaranteed. There is nothing like driving up and down hills on slick roads and looking in the rear-view mirror and practically being able to see what color the driver's eyes are, they're that close.

13. Heeehee! And I thought it was bad when I saw...
PETERBILT or MACK really big in my rearview mirror!!!

Truck drivers are becoming more dangerous too. I remember the day when they were courteous on the road and blinked their lights to let you know it was okay to move back into the driving lane from the passing lane. JesusfreakingChrist, I just realized, people don't know there is a difference.

I have to pass people on the right all the time because they are going under the speed limit on the highway, or just not keeping up with traffic. And then they usually finger you or sometimes tailgait you! WTF?

when they get hit by unfunded NCLB man-dates.:grr:

I guess when they cut Art and Music they can justify that no one dies. :eyes: But Driver's Education with real cars? What in the world is going on in public education these days?

20. Easiest things to cut
Edited on Fri Mar-04-05 09:57 PM by strategery blunder
1. Art
2. Music
3. Drivers Ed

Theoretically, PE should be between music and drivers ed, but no, we can't have an environment where parents are responsible for making sure their kids get exercise, now can we:eyes:

Getting rid of PE would also cut down on lots of oppurtunities for school bullying:eyes:

Hell, maybe PE should be the first class to cut when the unfunded NCLB man-date comes calling.

(/end oppurtunistic rant by victim of PE-related bullying)

17. People here in NC
either want to do 90 mph or 50 mph. I usually stay in the slow lane and go around 70 and I still get pushed all over the road.

And truckers? Fuggetaboutit.

Now that the gas prices are soaring, it will be interesting to see the change in the way "Brad/Muffy" Daddy & Soccer-Mommy drive in their Suburbans.

in those who have money.

The change will be in the poor. They can't afford this for their cars or their increases in food and utilities.
