Vegas TV News Station Pays State Senator (R) $3K/mo to "Consult"
Nevada Lawmaker Defends $3,000-a-Month Consulting Contract With TV Station

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - A state senator is defending her $3,000-a-month contract to consult with a television station on news content, including issues in the Legislature.

Sen. Barbara Cegavske, R-Las Vegas, said this week during a joint budget committee hearing that she works for Sunbelt Communications, which owns KVBC of Las Vegas. She said she has worked with the station about a year and helps with stories about education, health care and, sometimes, the Nevada Legislature.

"I'm a consultant," she told the Las Vegas Sun in an article published Friday. "They'll call me about different issues, ask me questions about health or education issues."

Here's their contact info if the spirit moves you. How many polite, reasonable people would have to contact a local news station about one story to make an impact? A dozen? Two dozen? Let's see...

1. Okay, maybe the implications aren't apparent...
If a media org has a cozy business relationship with the Republican politician, won't that lead to slanted coverage? Cegavske can get a voice, once removed from her, that resonates her positions.

In turn, Sunbelt Communications has access for any legislation they might profit from. The government is on their payroll!

This instance of a perverted relationship between the press and the govt is just as bad as when the govt is paying of journalists.

2. It certainly would! Lead to slanted coverage, that is! Kinda like the
administration paying a reporter 200K, or planting a fake reporter in the WH press corps, or having a bunch of completely fake, staged "townhall meetings" filled with shills to pimp dismantling Social Security.

Kinda like those things.

5. $3,000 A Month???
Consultant? At $36,000 a year? While not fulltime executive money that's not bad coin for "answering a call". Where do I get me one of these jobs?

6. First you have to get elected, then all you have to do is...
divorce yourself from any system of ethics that might encumber you.
