How come anything left of center is now labeled "Ultra-Left"?
I don't know about the rest of you, but I have had it with the media labeling anything that isn't in perfect alignment with the Republicans as "ultra-left," "far left," "ultra-liberal," etc. WTF is going on?? Ideas and positions that used to be considered mainstream and moderate are now all labeled "far left."

What has set me off this time is some idiot RW blog that called The West Wing an "ultra-left" show. Excuse me, but anyone with any sense of perspective knows that this show is about a MODERATE-LEFT president! In fact, the RW should be grateful to the West Wing for portraying Republicans in a far more favorable light than they deserve!

And what the hell is up with everyone thinking that Howard Dean is some raving liberal?? The corporate media now routinely refer to him as a staunch liberal, or ultra-left, etc. Anyone who knows his record as governor of Vermont knows that he is a CENTER-left politician. But because of the successful brainwashing by the Republicans and the corporate media, probably 9 out of 10 voters will tell you that Dean is an ultra liberal.

Well excuse me, but since when is opposition to an unprovoked invasion of a sovereign country that has not attacked or threatened to attack anyone a far left position?!?!?

Sheesh, my country really has gone nuts.

I just needed to vent. Thanks for listening.

1. Actually it shows
just how far right they are, they just moved the middle now. Not true but that's what they want everyone to think, it puts them in a better light this way.

10. This is true. I wasn't a Democrat until last year.
I've always been a moderate - I think there is room for compromise, but I do lean left. I have voted (and still vote) for some paelo-cons because I agree with balanced budgets and personal responsibility.
Of course, with the influx of the neo-cons, I am now considered far left. Huh? When the hell did that happen?
I haven't changed - the media has (and I WAS media for 12 years, true media, which is why I know how to look at all sides - I looked at the Bush side - it sucks).

3. For the same reason soap minus some water is "ULTRA!" soap.
It's marketing.
The Evil Genius Rove wants the Murkan Sheeple to understand only 2 positions on everything.

The CORRECT, stable Right-Wing position espoused by George (blessings be upon his Wonderful Name!) Bush and his lackeys in the press (yeah, I mean YOU, Cokie Roberts!)

And the frothing Uber-Liberal, left wing, Hillary wants to eat your aborted baby position epitomized by that wild-assed screaming Howard Dean...

It's all marketing. The same process by which millions of people learned that their lives are worthless without 500 channels and Free Evenings and Weekends with Rollover...

4. Eisenhower Republicans are now "ultra-left" ...
... which is why John Eisenhower, Ike's son, voted for Kerry.

8. They moved the center.
Edited on Sat Mar-05-05 12:34 AM by JohnnyRingo
Carl Rove last week opined that the administration was "right-center".
A friend told me that Sean Hannity is a "centrist".

This doesn't leave much room on the political spectrum for right wing extremists, does it?
I guess now there is no such thing.

on edit: BTW I share your frustration with the labels that have been applied to those that don't fall in with republican policy.

12. It's because the neocons are the right-wing extremists
The neocons in power, because they're so imperious, are trying to con Americans into thinking that anyone to their left are ultra-left extremists.

A thief calls everyone else a thief; a liar calls everyone else a liar; and an extremist calls everyone else an extremist. See the pattern now?
