DU this White House online SSI discussion! come on guys!
Come on DU, let's bombard them!! There will be interactive discussions online Monday. Click on link below!

www.whitehouse.gov/ask/question.html

Welcome to "Ask the White House" -- an online interactive forum where you can submit questions to Bush administration officials and friends of the White House. Visit the "Ask the White House" archive to read other discussions.

Monday's guest at 10:00am (ET)
Chuck Blahous
Special Assistant to the President for Economic Policy

HERE'S MY QUESTION:

Please explain how Social Security Privatization plans will handle the insurance provisions for the disabled. A private investment made 5-10 years, or even 15-20, will not have enough funds to cover the rest of a lifetime on disability. Why is the White House silent on the disabled????? I guarantee you, the rest of us will not be!

4. here's mine
what will happen to a me, a 50 year old woman who has had to sell all her 401K shares due to job loss/outsourcing and is now making less than a third of my income from 2000. How much will my SS be effected? My last SSA personal report says I can expect $1400 a month at age 65. What would the President's plan do to my retirement income?

According to Senator Reid's SS calculator I will lose $1,198 a year, while the conservative Heritage Org. says I could have earned $6K a month. Seems too good to be true and very confusing.

14. My husband died in Oct 2003
My job was outsourced in Aug 2004. Last year my earnings were 77,000.00 in 2005 my earnings will be $7140.00 (595.00 mo pension). I have a minor child, with no prospects of finding a job in the forseeable future. With your declared war on Americans (I understand there is a "War Room" set up in the Treasury building) so you must have declared war on us. What am I supposed to do to support my child and myself? Any suggestions or donations you would like to make would be greatly appreciated.

17. I raised two kids alone for 20 years, but did get some child
support. My son (now 23) is mentally handicapped. I ended up working as a restaurant manager....they will hire almost anyone...but you work long shifts (12-15 hours), different shifts every day, sometimes up to 11 days in a row without a day off, most won't let you sit down and eat lunch/dinner/breakfast whatever you want to call it in a 12 hour shift...not even one meal, they resent you taking that time. They treat you with the same respect you see coming to YOU from quick service food employess... maybe one weekend day a month off when you are lucky...maybe all night shifts (11am to 11pm or later)...are you sick? Better show up and be on your feet 11 hours anyway.... Need to go to the doctor or dentist? Use your day off (when you probably will be sleeping all day to catch up from closing one night and being in at 8am the next day, day after day)

I prayed a lot, and God always came through for me and my kids. Yes, due to exhaustion, and malnutrition (often I didn't eat because only money to feed the kids), and the effects of stress on the body, I will lose ALL my teeth by next year, and have already lost one full inch of my height (skeleton collapsing in from malnutrtion)
but I am alive, and sane, and my kids are alive, one doing well. That is my success.

The job almost killed me, and has taken literally years off my life, but my kids are better off for it.
I got married last year (after 20 years of being divorced) and so I can survive on less now.
God bless you and yours.

21. I started my own business after 9/11 and I am ruining my health in
just the way you describe.

we are paying the bills but just barely and went Chap 13 on our personal debt. My accountant looks at the numbers from last year and is amazed we are still in business, while the "trustee" in bankrupcty court is bugging us, trying to find the "hidden" money (don't i wish there was some!)

sigh, I'm tired but just keep getting up every day and putting one foot in front of the other

lucky for me no kids and a great hubby/biz partner and a heart full of faith

8. Here's mine
"Please explain how Social Security survivor benefits would work under President Bush's proposal. Would the children of people who die young get a guaranteed amount or would they just get a piece of what had accrued to date in the parent's account? I recently read that Sen. Lindsay Graham's parents died when he was in his early twenties and SS survivor benefits helped him take care of his sister, who was 13 at the time of his parent's death. I think it's horribly unfair not to take adequate care of those who've lost one or more of their parents."

Thanks for posting!! I hope they get hit with thousands of questions from those who oppose their irresponsible plan....

20. No, it DOESN'T
"SSI" is the abbreviation for Supplemental Security Income. Supplemental Security Income is a Federal income supplement program funded by general tax revenues (not Social Security taxes).

:eyes: Got it?

Which "news" pundits are being paid by the Bush Administration to bombard the American public with propaganda that promotes the privatization of Social Security?

19. Mine:
I am of the mind that President Bush's plan is little more than a scam to prop up the stock market and lure middle class investors back into the stock market after they were royally screwed by the tech boom and companies like Enron, MCI, etc.

But furthermore, with the utter lack of sense that President Bush has shown with our tax dollars, which we have to give him by laws that we don't get to write, why should anyone trust him or his friends in the investment industry with their money?

22. Here's my question that was submitted...

Are you aware that we, as a country, have had some experience already with pensions and retirement that are tied to the market, and not in the Public Trust? What is the impact of a complete market implosion on retirement savings under your plan? What, if any, safeguards have you in place for people who are not board members at JPMorgan?
