The thing that pisses me off about the Guiliana Sgrena shooting debacle
is that you KNOW this stuff happens to Iraqis on an hourly basis and the news never sees the light of day. It wasn't intentional: it was just goddamn incompetence, combined with shoot first ask questions later, combined with the philosophy that it's better to kill an Iraqi than expose Americans to any risk whatsoever...</rant>

:grr::grr::grr:

1. I agree, except...
I'm not sure about it being unintentional.

But assuming it was, I agree. And Iraqis are much worse off. No protection whatsoever, no bodyguards, no body armor, no vehicle armor. Just flesh getting ripped apart, by the dozens every day, by insurgents and by U.S. troops.

Not to mention more mundane abuse, rape, theft, etc. :mad:

Now ask your self something. Why would the Iraqis who want the US out of Iraq want this woman kidnapped or killed? I smell a Negroponte type "El Salvador" option in action here. This is his MO.

4. it's possible
that it was intentional. I don't believe the admin would risk alienating the Italian government by killing her (unless, of course, she had something REALLY juicy). We will find out.

2. she was reporting "incidents" that would make the US look VERY BAD
they had to silence her (now who gave the order)...and let's investigate all of her articles and see if shrub and rumsfeld should be in jail.

8. Bush doesn't own the foreign media like he does here. This will
be investigated thoroughly and the truth will seep out. The journalist's husband is saying that they were fired on after they'd passed the checkpoint.

While American media might think it is ok to silence foreign journalists, those in the free world don't.

5. Have they ever heard of signage at these checkpoints?
A half mile from the point they should have a billboard with an American flag that says "Checkpoint ahead. Stop or we will shoot you" in Arabic, Italian and a half dozen other languages. It should be lit up at night and be reflective.

If they had had this in January, the family of seven Iraqis would not have been fired on and the parents killed.

What is wrong with these people running this war? It is gross incompetence all around. Or they just don't give a shit how many innocents and heroes they kill.
