Those who worship graven Ten Commandment images are BREAKING God's law.
Edited on Sat Mar-05-05 02:52 PM by blm
It seems to me that one of the Ten Commandments is that you are not allowed to worship graven images. Yet, all these folks who are insisting the image of the Ten Commandments be adored and given special treatment, even on government property, seem to have forgotten that one.

Isn't it ironic that they are breaking a law of God while they are breaking the laws of state?

1. No representation of G_d in human form and...
no statues of Jesus, Mary, and a myriad of Saints.

I will also point out that the list of 10 commandments one sees in those monuments are not the actual Ten Commandments that appear in the Book of Exodus, but a highly edited Christian version.

5. Heh. Their entire fundie agenda is a "highly edited Christian version."
Because it sure doesn't resemble any form of Christianity that I grew up with at a Catholic school that emphasized charity towards all, especially the sick and the poor, over all else.

My mom used to do alot of charity work when I was very young, and then went fundamentalist and started hating everything and everyone. The further right she went, the crueler she became.

Crazy...as if the fundamentalism allowed her to give in to the demons of hate inside of her that the catholic charity work was keeping suppressed.

Hmmm.

2. Depends on which version of the commandments you follow.
Which is part of the problem. The version that most of the fundies follow only mentions not having any other gods and mentions nothing about graven images. Many other religions follow th version that includes the graven image part.

Allowing the monuments to stand is choosing one religions version over the other's.

3. I try to frame fundamentalism this way:
To make the bible or whatever holy book above question or reproach is to erect an idol made of words rather than stone. In either case, an idol cannot truly reflect the face or mind of God.

4. If somebody today went up a mountain and came down
with some scribbling on a couple rocks and said he was talking to god, he would ___________________ (fill in blank).

8. Those who worship graven images

I guess my only question to these rock-worshippers is "why are only two of the commandments actually part of our modern law? Should we start outlawing coveting, and worshipping other gods, and all the other stuff?

10. yes... I wonder about this -- Reno on Bill Maher said it well last night
that people came to America so they could be Free to worship how they wanted. Somehow we've forgotten all that in this push for "my religion is better than your religion, and if you don't have religion you must be on the side of satan" crowd.

and what is this statue all about anyway? I know it's been talked bout elsewhere around here, but I pass this going to and from work 5 days a week. People I work with are close with people at this church -- all I could say to them was how HUGE it was... (and it is...) but isn't this like mockery of Christ?

12. No; fighting a war in the name of God is a mockery of the almighty.

Your sculpture is nothing more than bad art. Very large, very bad art.
