FLASH! Bush has now set up a tax-funded "Social Security WAR ROOM!"
Edited on Sat Mar-05-05 03:42 PM by Bluebear
New propaganda ministry now open on YOUR DIME!!!!!!!
"The uber purpose is to centralize and coordinate the administration's public affairs and communication activities," said chief Treasury spokesman Rob Nichols. "It is developing talking points to ensure that all officials are "singing off the same song sheet," Nichols said.

"Uber-purpose"???? Nice touch throwing German in there! Sounds more like a "War on American's Future room".

WASHINGTON - A new Social Security war room inside the Treasury Department is pumping out information (ed: propaganda??) to sell President Bush's plan, much like any political campaign might do. It's part of a coordinated effort by the Bush administration.

The internal, taxpayer-funded campaigning is backed up by television advertisements, grass-roots organizing and lobbying from business and other groups that support the Bush plan.

The president's opponents are organized too, though they do not enjoy the resources of the White House or Treasury to sell their message.

For the administration, the communications effort is being coordinated out of Treasury's public affairs office through the new Social Security Information Center. Three people have been hired, with two more hires possible soon. The first three employees are veterans of the Bush-Cheney campaign or the Republican National Committee.

1. Using Taxpayer Money For Propaganda Is Illegal!
One more reason to impeach Bush.

3. And they don't care about watching their language anymore either.
First it was 'homeland', and now "UBER-purpose"!

Everyone who complains about the B*sh/Hitler comparisons needs to think long and hard....

5. Phew so it's not just me
Next phrase to start up: One country, one future, one plan or something like that.

I am reminded of Ari Fleischer who used to counsel that "people should be careful what they say".

14. I don't blame you
I don't think this social security thing will pass though. There are too many on the republican side against it, not to mention the dems.

I am sure there are some things that could change about social security, but not what Bush is proposing.

But the notion of using our tax dollars to promote his bullshit propaganda, isn't there some kind of law about that?

12. Hmm. Now why should business care about Social Security?
Edited on Sat Mar-05-05 04:24 PM by Stirk
I mean- Texaco isn't planning to retire, I assume. It couldn't possibly be that they want to steal the money, could it?

Isn't it strange that the voice of big business is being welcomed into this debate? It's like asking Custer for his opinions on tribal gaming.

17. Because employers must chip in 6% to F.I.C.A. also, and
they want to have those funds to stuff into their own pockets, or offshore accounts.

26. I am so freakin tired of these people
I just wish some days I could wake up and the last few years were nothing but a bad dream.

I can't speak for everyone else, but I am soooo tired of all of them!!!

My only comfort right now is I think the shrub may have bitten off more than he can handle with SS. I'm praying that this is the one thing that will finally wake up some of the sheeple. Make them realize that shrub and his cabal are out to suck this country dry and that their lives don't mean squat to him. They are just so much fodder for his war machine and his bank account.

God I hate them all!!!!!!!!!! :argh:

meanwhile a really odious budget is just sailing right through.

33. Suggestion for a plank in the Democratic Party platform
The Democratic Party shall pass legislation to force Mr. Bush and other members of his administration to reimburse US taxpayers for illegitimate use made of public facilities and funds for partisan purposes during his tenure in the White House.
