Why is it that Dems never engage in dirty tricks?
Edited on Sat Mar-05-05 04:57 PM by NNguyenMD
The otherside has GOPNEXT, Talon News, Swift Boaties, Karl Rove, incendiary ads meant to instigate anger, College Republicans, how come we don't hit back the same way they do?

I'm not exactly volunteering to commit my life to mud slinging either, but you have to wonder why the Republicans feel so cocky and confidant, they've got an army of assholes totally comfortable living and eating shit.

Are we too dignified to engaged in their kind of tactics? Is this the price we pay for not sinking to their level. Because if it is, then the public certainly doesn't realize it.

2. Most Dems' I know , don't know how.
They believe in Good government and compassion for all...Not a good background for fighting dirty, which is now mandatory..Used to be you had some civil spirited Repugs. like Everett Dirksen, where country came first. Dam rare now...I would say in the Congress, civil minded repugs are under 10..These guys are pre-cut blow dried corporate monsters hired by the ranks of Enron and friends.

4. Strategy does not have to be dirty tricks, but we have no strategy and no
leader of that strategy. Until we get this straight, we will continue to lose.

6. The right is financed from the top down. It's an organized *movement*.
Edited on Sat Mar-05-05 05:27 PM by Stirk
All those dirty tricks are the result of coordinated, well-funded media campaigns. They didn't just come out of nowhere- there are alot of very wealthy, very powerful people at the top of it funneling money into their propaganda effort. Certain corporatists fund it because they want to steal more money, basically.

The left is a collection of ideals- a disjointed list of factions. Also, the very wealthy don't stand to profit from leftist policies, so there's relatively little in the way of top-down funding.

7. like the bible says
"what benefit do you get gaining the whole world if you lose your soul?" or something like that...
i recall an article about aristotle onassis, who was dying and had to be transferred to paris for a treatment that would hopefully put off his death for a few days; there was a picture of onassis on the front page of the paper. His face said it all. Onassis wasn't a bad man, as wealthy shipowners go, but his face, grey with terror, said 'i ripped off every man who ever worked for me and enjoyed doing it...i lived like a king while all around me some humanity suffered from neglect and want, w/out a tough guy like me to demand redress for them, and i enjoyed that too...oh god how i wish i was one of those lil defenseless fools suffering from hunger and dirt and shame! oh god how i wish i learned from all the wise men who warned me- it will end, and there will one day, be an accounting!'
The busheviks/nazipoos/kakaka'ers and their fukking mediawhores have less justification for what they've done then ari onassis ever did, (hell they were even better off under clinton's hated 'liberalism') and like ari, they will, at the last moment, know it, and will die screaming inside their mt heads...
fukkem...fukkem to hell

8. Oh I have a criminal mind
and if put to work, could do amazing, but unethical things.

I choose not to.

I did say, right after the election and VERY tongue in cheek, "don't WE have the better hackers???"

All in all, I'm rather glad to be on the side that's not so incredibly slimy.

9. EXCUSE ME?????
Geez, we don't even need to engage in dirty tricks. Any time we win at anything, the sheeple are led to believe that we only prevailed because of it!!

Two days after JFK soundly defeated Nixon, the editorials were out about "one person per precinct in Illinois", and the Nixon era begins in 1960.

Sheeple buy into that, yet don't realize that JFK had more than enough EVs to win, even without Illinois.

Mostly penny ante shit of course, city council races and stuff like that--they get caught alot too.

Like Bob Dylan put it "Steal a little and they'll throw you in jail. Steal alot and they'll make you king."

15. Democrats never engage in dirty tricks?
Do you really believe this? I know it's hard to see when compared to the tactics of the current republican party, but there hasn't been a clean election in the US yet, on either side.

16. Because they know they could never get away with it the way the GOP does.
But then, I don't think it's in our basic nature to lie and cheat.

Winning is everything to the Republicans. They LOVE fighting and war, of course, not enough for any of them to strap on a gun and go serve their nation in a REAL war, especially as long as they can send someone else and someone else's kids.

19. Ends justify the means, if it's all about power to you.
Edited on Sat Mar-05-05 09:08 PM by SmokingJacket
Those who care more about power/money than about Doing Good will have NO qualms about dirty tricks.

The Democratic Party, right now anyway, is very focused equality and social programs, less about power (huge generalization...).

But the Repubs lately have gone power-mad. And the religious radical segment of the party is ALSO all about the ends, rather than the means.

I often imagining them conniving away in their underground bunkers, feeling a tiny bit of guilt about some sleazy plan of theirs, and then saying, "But we're RIGHT! We're DIVINELY APPOINTED! We DESERVE it! So we bend a few ethics... big deal! We're WINNERS who will stop at NOTHING!"

Have you noticed how often they said that -- "We'll stop at nothing!" or "Whatever it takes!" -- during the election? It freaked me out.

20. If Repukes were honest, they'd never win elections
They have to use dirty tricks: slander, propaganda, etc., because they're on the wrong side of every economic issue and most social issues (depending on where in the country you're from). Otherwise, the people will see the GOP for the elitist snobs they are and would elect Dems in landslide victories.

22. Maybe we should start getting organized. Starting here, with this thread,
LOL.

But seriously. We need new blood. Dean as DNC is promising but overall I have been very very disappointed with the so called leadership in this Party. I see very little to encourage me from people like Hilary Clinton etc. who are supposed to be the leading lights.

Seems like the predominating theme is to worry about not offending Right Wingers. I have little use for this, and it will never win us elections.
