3. You forgot Idaho
70% GOP. Now censuring a Mormon farmer, father of eight, who introduced a bill to allow his storemart to sell liquor within feet of grade schools. He claimed he had industry support under oath to change the law. He did not. Although he lied under oath, the GOP dominated legislature is just slapping his wrists. Republicans have double standards. If democrats do something wrong, they should be strung up. If the GOP does something wrong, it must have been someone else's fault.

5. PA: Socially conservative; liberal otherwise
I'm a PA native and have lived here most of my life. I think that, even in the urban areas, it's pretty socially conservative--extended families staying in same neighborhoods, regular church attendance, stigma still there for people living together unmarried, abortion viewed quite negatively even when it's felt it should remain legal But economically and otherwise, I'd say it's less conservative than a state like New Hampshire. Higher union membership, strong belief in government safety net, lots of colleges and diverse college towns, strong social justice tradition in the churches, strong enviromnental/sportsmen group efforts to preserve natural heritage, vibrant arts communities in big cities. "Populist" issues still play well here and citizens have a built in BS detector--they are skeptical of Bush administration economic agenda and the buzz words (e.g., ownership society) they like to employ.

6. Either
New Hampshire or Pennsylvania.

I voted for PA, but on second thought I think NH would work just as well.

Both have repuke senators. PA has the notorious Santorum. NH has Sununu, but I forgot the other senator.

The other states listed have atleast one Dem senator.

9. I live in New Jersey, but my county is blood red
Ocean County is so red it's disgusting. To this day I still see a ton of Bush/Cheney stickers, and rarely do I (or did I) see any Kerry/Edwards stickers. It's mostly rednecks and senior citizens that live here.
