I just read one of Andrew Sullivan's blog columns.
Edited on Thu Sep-11-03 09:57 PM by Plaid Adder
My partner is cooking chicken and to entertain her I read his column on the "flypaper" strategy to her:

http://www.andrewsullivan.com/main_article.php?artnum=20030906

It's the first time I've ever read every word of an Andrew Sullivan article from beginning to end. God DAMN that man is crazy!

At first, he was pissing me off; but by the time I got to the end I was just laughing my ass off. I seriously almost fell out of my chair. If you need a boost, go read this thing. The sheer delusionality of it will amuse you no end--and the ironies! My favorite part is where he explains how wonderful it is that our soldiers have provided the Islamic extremists of the world with a new target "that is not Israel!" Because God knows no terrorist activity has taken place in Israel since we invaded Iraq! And how it's great that we're now proving that Israel is not the main cause of instability and strife in the Middle East--because WE are!

OK, he doesn't actually *say* "because we are," but the rest of it is almost verbatim...and how can you help doing the MST3K on it? It writes itself!

And the most priceless, the most ball-bustingly funny part is the last paragraph, when he argues that Bush has to go on TV and tell everyone that more violence in Iraq is a GOOD thing, because right now...get this...he looks defensive and not in control of the situation! And "this must end!" Because it's totally not the case! Honest! THEY MEANT TO DO THIS!

(sound of me falling off the chair and practically exploding with laughter)

I mean, it isn't funny, really, with the people dying and all that. It's this guy's lunacy that's funny. Can he not see how pathetic he AND his boy George are? I guess not. Guess if he could, he'd be a whole different guy.

Yeesh,

The Plaid Adder

1. Neo-con writers...
Edited on Thu Sep-11-03 10:01 PM by Patriot_Spear
They never serve in the military.

They never run for office.

They hate academics- mainly because they have very few credentials themselves.

...And they talk ceaselessly about things they don't have a clue about.

You want to impress me Sullivan? Go fucking enlist.

Geez that guy bugs me.

2. my utmost sympathies
I'm sorry but it's not funny as the loons are in charge. Geez, and last night Gerald Posner's trash was laid across DU's doorstep here on GD.

7. But the thing is, Andrew Sullivan is not in charge of anything
he just likes to make it look like he is.

No, on the deepest level, it's not funny, but you gotta take the humor where you can find it. Just the way my sense of humor works, I guess; you can either gouge your eyes out with a fork in an orgy of outrage and pain, or laugh.

C ya,

5. You are patriotic, right?
That's the perfect ending. (let him figure out how terrifying he is for himself.)
Great letter.

4. You're totally right!
This man is INSANE! I just love this part:

He has to remind people that this war is far from over, that the mission is still very much unaccomplished, and that this is not Vietnam. Right now he looks defensive, reactive and not in full control. That must end. And articulating the flypaper strategy might just help end it.

So, George Bush looks "defensive, reactive and not in full control" but, says Sullivan, this is NOT because the chaos in Iraq wasn't planned for, Oh No! You see, George Bush ALWAYS looks "defensive, reactive and not in full control" when things go according to plan!

As Sullivan points out "the mission is still very much unaccomplished" despite this little photo op:

Yep, Sullivan is INSANE!

6. Yeah, that's definitely the craziest part.
OK, so if the mission is unaccomplished...and they KNEW it would still be unaccomplished for a while...WHY DID THEY SAY IT WAS?

I mean, sure, WE know they're a bunch of lying sacks...but if they are a bunch of lying sacks for whom everything is on track, wouldn't they have avoided telling such an OBVIOUS lie in such a dramatic manner?

That column is a priceless example of a man drowning in his own cognitive dissonance. I mean, he's not a moron. He writes pretty well. He's just so fucking DELUDED that he can't figure out how to make everything work out...because he is unwilling to understand that his image of Bush is just totally fucking unfounded and wrong. He's doing a Beverly Crusher: "If there's nothing wrong with Bush...there must be something wrong with the universe!"

Also I love how he's constantly stroking his own sense of importance by talking about all these insiders he hobnobs with. Yiiiiiiich.

It would probably bother me less if he were straight. As I said to Liza, "That's one guy who's really lettin' the team down."

:grr:

8. It makes me wonder if he's suffering
from AIDS dementia. Granted, he's always been an egotistical twisted sister, but it looks to me like he's finally flipped his wig!

9. I'm really curious about Andrew Sullivan...
I don't understand why the jerk has such a following from all the blogers, columnists, liberals, and others. I just don't understand it! I wouldn't even go to the site where he is quoted. He is such a pri*k, so WHY is he of such interest to ANYONE????
