President Bush plans to visit a Detroit Edison power plant in Monroe on Monday to discuss environmental protection and energy reliability.

snip

Bush is likely to talk about his "Clear Skies" proposal that addresses power plant emissions of pollutants that cause smog, soot and health problems.

David Gard, an energy policy specialist at the Michigan Environmental Council, said Bush's "Clear Skies" proposal would be a setback from the current Clean Air Act restrictions.

I have sat in anger in disbelief for far too long. Now, when nearly everyday I have to listen to speeches attempting to reinforce the ties between Iraq and 9-11. When I listen to the asinine statement that Iraq is now the frontline on the "war on Terrorism" (or is that tourism? I can never tell). When I listen to so much Bushit spewing forth in an attempt to lather the sheeple up...NOW, I have the chance to go and be seen, to raise my voice for my children and neighbors. To call even the smallest bit of attention to this farce that is our government. Any other Michiganders with me???

1. Go, even if you go alone
It's always nice to meet up with someone you know, but it's great to meet new people, too. Bush needs to see as many people protesting him as we can muster. The crowds get larger every day.

4. Go, Mrs. Grumpy, go!
I'm too far away from Detroit, but with some help from Google I bet you can find a local organization that's leading a charge to the barricades. Or if you can't, there's still time to organize!

The people usually leading the charge in Chicago are the local ANSWER folks; I don't know whether Detroit has a chapter. You can also try environmental groups, your local Democratic Party outposts, churches, student groups, angry nuns, and so on. Plug in "Detroit" and "anti-war" or "environmental*" and see what pops up. And if nothing does, call your friends, buy some posterboard, and be your own free speech zone!

Remember...you don't need a permit to be on the sidewalk.

Give 'em hell,

The Plaid Adder

6. Mrs. Grumpy, check out your local Michigan Indy Media by Googling. They
probably have a group who is going to protest that you could hook up with. Or go to the United for Peace Web site and there should be some organizations listed there in Detroit who have plans for this protest..... Good for you!
