I also sent one to Congressman Ford and Sen Frist
Dear CA, I cannot begin to express how disappointed I am by the lack of coverage in this paper, of the Bankruptcy Reform Bill. The public needs to be informed of this. As anyone paying attention knows, this bill was authored by the credit card companies and their powerful lobbies. It is nothing other than a gift to those corporations that are in the business of predatory lending, like MBNA, Capitol One, Ford Motor Credit, etc. The bill has no provisions for people who have catastrophic medical illnesses or accidents which make up for over 50% of all bankruptcies nationwide (mostly our seniors). There are no provisions for people who have experienced a failing business, divorce, loss of job, or any number of things that can cause good hard working people to need assistance. There is even no provision for our underpaid soldiers who are putting their very lives at risk, while the country they are fighting for is busy making it harder on these soldiers families, who are left at home holding the financial bag. Supporting the troops? I think not! Moving forward on this bill would be a serious blow to the many hard working people who are having trouble making ends meet, many of whom are working two and three jobs because the minimum wage is not a living wage. It is your responsibility as a newspaper to inform your readers of these facts. I fully believe with an informed populace, this bill would not stand a chance, but as it stands, many people are ignorant of this bill and it's implications. Sincerely, kristi
