I thought the statue was of a Native American. Nope, it is a woman named "Freedom"(her parents must have been hippies) wearing an eagle head. That is just the epitome of gaudy. Unauthorized use of eagle parts is also very illegal.

On edit: Got to it before the grammar patrol did. Ha ha, you'll never know! :P

2. Did you notice which way she's facing?

She has her @ss toward the White House. Do ya s'pose there's a meaning in that? (I know that's not the WH in the photo, but it's true she's facing away from W, just like the protesters on 1/20).

3. Armed Liberty
In 1855, the American sculptor Thomas Crawford, then living in Rome, was commissioned to design a statue of Lady Freedom which would go atop the U.S. Capitol, then being constructed. Crawford proposed an “Armed Liberty” design, including a shield, a sword and stars around a liberty cap. But a liberty cap was a symbol of freed slaves, and Secretary of War Jefferson Davis, the Mississippi man who later became President of the Confederacy, objected. The liberty cap was replaced by a helmut with an eagle headdress.

4. Bald eagles are beautiful but are scavengers
They are found around dumps in AK and eat not only live salmon (it is spectacular to see one grab a salmon out of the ocean) but dead and decomposing stuff. They fill an important niche in the world as seagulls do.
