Paul Craig Roberts: So Much for the new Bush Economy. Please read.
Edited on Thu Mar-10-05 04:09 PM by KlatooBNikto
In my opinion we have no better writers on economic matters than Paul Craig Roberts and Paul Krugman. PCR, as a past Assistant Secretary of the Treasury during the Reagan Administration, is especially effective in debunking the B.S. coming from the yahoos of the supply side school.Today's article,

Link: http://www.counterpunch.com/roberts03102005.html

is a sober warning that all is not well with the prescription of tax cuts for the wealthy in the new Bush economy. One particularly devastating statemnt he refers to is "how Cisco is trying to convert itself into a Chinese corporation".Multiply this many times and you don't have to wonder why tax cuts will never work, if creating jobs is the goal. The type of jobs created now are what PCR correctly calls Third World Service Jobs.

Those who sold the American people this prescription ,economists,op-ed columnists (Tom Friedman comes to mind) should be prosecuted under a new law I would like to see passed: Truth in opinions.

1. its not the opinions, its the news.
I would like to see a truth in news law.

If its news, you have to say or rate it a NEWS show. Then it all has to be facts, no lies, no propaganda, just facts. Punished by fines, shutting down stations or networks and even jail time.

If its opinion, it has to be rated or clearly stated that it is an OPINION show and is not subject to being factual.

2. What policy change would keep the jobs here?
I blame the Walmart and Cisco barons for instigating this destruction of America. What would stop this from happening, though? Is there a tax policy change?

3. I think there are several prescriptions that can be instituted:

1. Eliminate all incentives for such corporations, local, state and federal.
2. Increase the tariffs on products imported from their overseas production facilities to match prices that would be prevalent if they were manufactured here. In this we need to educate our people that cheaper goods means loss of jobs at home.

4. I understand that US textiles have significant tariff protections
and they have been increasing in the last several years. So,let's go with tariffs.

5. What he says is so obvious
This Reagan man is a true conservative. I can't understand why today's so-called conservatives have abandoned their core values to throw their pearls at the feet of people like Karl Rove, Jeff Gannon, Rush Limbaugh, Shrub. . .It makes no sense to me.
