Look how big Iran is compared to Iraq. Then look how big Syria is compared to Iraq.

Population Statistics:

Iraq: 25,374,691

3. I'm not sure that size is going to matter
Alliances have been formed where if either gets attacked then the other is considered under attack as well.
Also, China and Russia is part of the equasion, these "people" better think long and hard about any move they make.

5. Hey Wait! Who says size doesn't matter?
Oops, wrong forum ;)

Bet you're right! Guess we'll find out May 1st. Wasn't that the date he issued in his ultimatum?

6. I'd definitely question the wisdom of showing Iran my back.
They have a real military, after all.
I'm not confident at all of the Iraqi response when our government asks them to cover our backs while we go after Syria, either.
Washington has made an enemy on both flanks, while encamped in a "with friends like these, who needs enemies?" country.

9. Too a point
I don't believe they could sustain a long term invasion that it would certainly take, and not all Israelis would be in favor of being drawn into a war.

12. Bush attacks states that are weak, available, not ones that are dangerous
That's why we took out Iraq instead of a place that actually had or would soon have nukes.

Therefore I would expect that Iran would never be attacked. Whether that means Bush will move on to Syria and dump Iraq--in the same way he moved on to Iraq after dumping Afghanistan--is still up in the air.

16. I think they'll surprise us all and invade Lebanon
if Syria doesn't get out by Bush's deadline. We will drive out the Syrian occupiers and replace them with Americans.

19. Iran would not fold like Iraq -- and look how tough it's been in Iraq...
I look at that map, and I see Iran with American troops on its west (Iraq) and on its east (Afghanistan). Thus penned in, Iran would seem a logical target.

Which is exactly why your idea about Syria makes sense, Stop_the_War.
