Harry Reid did some serious damage to the Good Will he'd built up
I'll admit that I had my doubts about Harry Reid, particularly his anti-abortion stance, but I was willing to give him chance.

He pleasantly surprised me with his willingness to lock horns with the GOP, and for that I was grateful.

Then today, he had to go damage the good will he'd built up with those of us who had reservations about him by voting in favor of that awful new Bankruptcy Bill.

Harry, if you're going to lead the Democrats, don't vote like a Republican.

3. I know.
I was excited that he and Dean were going to speak to us via conference call at the MoveOn meeting tonight. Now I hardly feel like going....how can I trust anyone who would do such a thing?

Of course, Citibank is one of his "constituents," but I am getting really tired of making excuses for politicians I want to "believe in."

5. The old
Democratic party, the party that fought for the little guy, appears to be dead. Now it seems that the politicians care more about their corporate donors than about the people who elected them. I am so disgusted.

14. Come on, you know all the Senate Dems are not all bad
I know YOU do. Besides, Reid voted FOR it, sadly, so it doesn't look like he was going to do much rounding up. 25 Dems DO have a conscience, though, don't forget that.

this was devestating today. I was just beginning to like Reid. .This is a major loss. I am nor sure what makes up for it. And it is very devastating to those Dems that didn't support it(except Lieberman, who voted against all the amendments and then voted no, so it didn't matter!) I am so sorry for Kerry , Kennedy, Boxer and Durbin and all the rest. We should be able to work together , Dammit! :bounce: :bounce:

17. But this is a theme with them. If not one, the other is voting Repuke.
I think it might be a coordinated effort to spread out the weight of the Repuke votes.

They know how their colleagues are going to vote in advance, and they plan out how many votes they need to pass something.

I keep seeing the same usual suspects, myself... with the glaring exception of Joementum, this time, and the startling addition of Reid. Other than that, it seems to be the same crummy people.

9. Reid apparently doesn't understand that the
job of the leader of the opposition is to lead the opposition. If he isn't up to the job, then the Dems ought to replace his ass with a warrior like Kennedy.

My repuke sister-in-law who lives in Las Vegas thinks Reid is great. Tells me all I need to know about him.

11. He is a Tom Dachsle clone
It's like most of the dems do....start out being a "real" democrat standing up to the GOPerverts making us think they are on OUR side then they slip back to their real repuke suck-up selves. Our democratic "leaders" are nothing but DINO's....except for a few and even THEY let us down from time to time. We have no opposing party and we have no voice. The whole bunch of them should be voted out with all new members voted in their place. As long as the dems want to play the "Bi-Partisan" game,we will never win. Never.

12. Ask him how much money it would take for him to un-do the bill in the
next congress?

Then, perhaps we can all raise enough to outbid the credit card companies and bribe him back into line.

Maybe wheelbarrows full of pennies dumped on the capital steps?

The fact is, these politicians are OUR hired guns too. They do need us, our donations and our votes.

We need to organize and start empowering ourselves. I love your idea to form a blogger PAC.

If we continue to donate and reward them for their Repuke behavior, we will continue to have no power.

22. Which brings up the puzzles I've been trying to figure out
just what is the difference between a bribe and a large contribution? And why is a bribe illegal, but voting the way a large "contributor" wants you to over the interests of your constituents is not?

20. I sent him email
Told him that while I gave some money for the DNC hiring Dean, from now on I'm picking and choosing who I give money to. Including to Dems willing to fight against DINOs in primaries.

I'm just so disgusted. This should be a no-brainer for a Dem. We need a way for the Democratic elected officials to explain themselves. Frankly I also think that there should be criteria and if a Dem doesn't toe the line at least 70% of the time then they should be kicked out of the party. Anybody who gets kicked out or flips to the other side should be required to pay back the Democratic party for all donations given to their elections.

I also want an explanation of the Dem party on abortion. Pro-life is a Republican term and I don't comprehend it. When Reid says he's pro-life but a Democrat does that mean he believes in making abortion safe, legal and Rare -? And by rare I mean reducing unwanted pregnancies, not legislating minority morals (banning abortion in any way) on the rest of us?????????????

I'm hoping Dean will:
1) Define the party with easy soundbites
2) Explain the soundbites with good framing
3) Bypass the Repub MSM to get the message out
4) Get Dems to get the same message out
5) Get elected Dems to follow the party line most of the time
6) Have Dems explain themselves if they deviate the party line - publically so the voter can hear and decide for themselves
7) Build a strong local grassroots Dem party for funding and action, so the Dem politicos don't rely on corporations for money

Probably too much to ask.

23. It may have been a parlimentary trick
Often times one person on a losing side will vote with the winners so he can offer a motion to reconsider. I don't know that is what Reid did, but it may have been.

I just dropped him after that-- he's NOT what I call a Democrat.

26. What good will?
I'm sympathetic to your kindness but his record wasn't enough to engender good will. We need to pay attention to their ENTIRE record and be more purist about this.

Ever since I woke up to their games, I refuse to forgive. Swing voters and Vichy-accommodating politicians need to stay the hell on the other side of the line because we can't count on them- their loyalties are not ours.

If, no matter what he did, he couldn't get the votes to stop it, he might have just said, ok, do whatever is best for you individually.

Not saying that is what happened. Just throwing it out as a possibility.

and tell him how disappointed you are in this vote of his!

He does have Citibank in his state. Did he think we wouldn't notice?

Maybe that's why he taped his call to MoveOn, instead of fielded any questions.

They all have to learn.

33. Sen. Reid pretended not to know what country Negroponte was ambassador to
on Jim Lehrer NH the week Negroponte was appointed ambassador to Iraq. Lehrer asked Reid's opinion and Reid praised his experience as a diplomat. Ambassador to "some South American country...." with a vague air "....Honduras, I believe." No Big Deal, right?

Harry can you say IRAN/CONTRA! IRAN! CONTRA! IRAN! IRAN!

Lost me right there. Really bad actor.
