Prisoners at Abu Ghraib Said Included Kids (Look how this is voted down)

WASHINGTON - A boy no older than 11 was among the children held by the Army at Iraq (news - web sites)'s Abu Ghraib prison, the former U.S. commander of the facility told a general investigating abuses at the prison.

Brig. Gen. Janis Karpinski did not say what happened to the boy or why he was imprisoned, according to a transcript of her interview with Maj. Gen. George Fay that was released by the American Civil Liberties Union (news - web sites).

The transcript of the May 2004 interview was among hundreds of pages of documents about Iraq prisoner abuses the group made public Thursday after getting them under the Freedom of Information Act.

Karpinski, who was in charge of Abu Ghraib from July to November 2003, said she often visited the prison's youngest inmates. One boy "looked like he was 8-years-old," Karpinski said.

Bet there are some "good" Christian folks voting this story down. The true believers most likely. May they burn in the hell that they have created for themselves.

9. What happened to the Seymour Hersch story about the child rape?
Hersch said he had information about videos taken by US soldiers who looked on and did nothing while Iraqi Guards raped children at Abu Ghraib. I think this is the evidence that Rumsfeld called "radioactive" and did not release to Congress, but allowed Congressmen to view at closed-door meetings at the Pentagon. This story was all over DU last year, for week after week. Now nothing.

"The worst is the soundtrack of the boys shrieking," the reporter told an ACLU convention last week. Hersh says there was "a massive amount of criminal wrongdoing that was covered up at the highest command out there, and higher."

11. Email the story
The best way to get a story into the yahoo "most popular" listing is to use the link at the bottom to email it. Email it to everyone you know. Freeper types can counteract your vote by voting a story down but they can't take away from the number of times a story has been emailed.

It says something that we're always trying to get stories noticed while the Freepers are always trying to hide stories. If you're right, you don't need to hide the news.

you know if only ONE American youth of, say 15, were detained like these kids, it would be all over the headlines. But this? We don't hear about it, except to be told the Pentagon hasn't found anything bad going on except for those few "bad apples". Nothing but whitewash.

30. The Japanese used to raid a village
when the men were out hunting, kidnap the women and children, and take them back to their ships that were anchored near shore. Next they would tie their hostages to the sides of the ship and torture them. The men would be outraged, and would paddle their boats to certain death as they tried to rescue their family. Once near the ship, it was difficult for them to shoot arrows or throw spears because they might hit one of their own. The Japanese just picked them off, one at a time.

For some reason, the torture of these children brings the same image to mind. By allowing the women to pass messages, they were encouraging their husbands to stand and fight the US military, which is a real stupid thing to do. It would take an extreme amount of self-control to not take that bait.

in me that it is frightening. I don't usually feel such an unnatural hatred toward others, but I will never be able to forgive those who have done this (especially to children) in the name of my country. Never.
