Why do "friends" email this c*** to me
Latest pro-* circulating the web

"HOPE YOU READ EVERY WORD...........IT MIGHT OPEN THE EYES OF SOME BUSH HATERS, IF THEY HAVE THE GUTS TO READ IT WITH AN OPEN MIND..............

WHAT SENATOR JOHN GLENN SAID, Scroll down.

Things that make you think a little........

There were 39 combat related killings in Iraq during January.... in the fair city of Detroit there were 35 murders in the month of January. That's just one American city, about as deadly as the entire war torn country of Iraq. When some claim President Bush shouldn't have started
this war, remember the following .

FDR...led us into World War II. Germany never attacked us: Japan did.
From 1941-1945, 450,000 lives were lost, an average of 112,500 per year.
Truman...finished that war and started one in Korea, North Korea never
attacked us. From 1950-1953, 55,000 lives were lost, an average of 18,334 per year.

John F. Kennedy. ..started the Vietnam conflict in 1962. Vietnam never attacked us.
Johnson...turned Vietnam into a quagmire. From 1965-1975, 58,000 lives were lost, an average of 5,800 per year.

Clinton...went to war in Bosnia without UN or French consent, Bosnia never attacked us.
He was offered Osama bin Laden's head on a platter three times by Sudan and did nothing. Osama has attacked us on multiple occasions.

In the years since terrorists attacked us President Bush has ....liberated two countries, crushed the Taliban, crippled al-Qaida, put nuclear inspectors in Libya, Iran and North Korea without firing a shot, and captured a terrorist who slaughtered 300,000 of his own people.

The Democrats are complaining about how long the war is taking, but...It took less time to take Iraq than it took Janet Reno to take the Branch Davidian compound. That was a 51-day operation. We've been looking for evidence of chemical weapons in Iraq for less time than it took Hillary Clinton to find the Rose Law Firm billing records. It took less time for the 3rd Infantry
Division and the Marines to destroy the Medina Republican Guard than it took Ted Kennedy to call the police after his Oldsmobile sank at Chapaquiddick. It took less time to take Iraq than it took to count the votes in Florida!!!!

Our Commander-In-Chief is doing a GREAT JOB! The Military morale is high! The biased media hopes we are too ignorant to realize the facts.

Wait, there's more.......................

JOHN GLENN ON THE SENATE FLOOR

Date: Mon, 26 Jan 2004 11:13

Some people still don't understand why military personnel do what they do for a living. This exchange between Senators John Glenn and Senator Howard Metzenbaum is worth reading. Not only is it a pretty impressive impromptu speech, but it's also a good example of one man's explanation of why men and women in the armed services do what they do for a
living.

This IS a typical, though sad, example of what some who have never served think of the military.

Senator Metzenbaum to Senator Glenn: "How can you run for Senate when you've never held a real job?"

Senator Glenn: "I served 23 years in the United States Marine Corps. I served through two wars. I flew 149 missions. My plane was hit by anti-aircraft fire on 12 different occasions. I was in
the space program. It wasn't my checkbook, Howard; it was my life on the line. It was not a
nine-to-five job, where I took time off to take the daily cash receipts to the bank. I ask you to go with me ... as I went the other day ... to a veteran's hospital and look those men -- with their mangled bodies -- in the eye, and tell THEM they didn't hold a job! You go with me to the Space Program at NASA and go, as I have gone, to the widows and Orphans of Ed White, Gus Grissom and Roger Chaffee... and you look those kids in the eye and tell them that their DADS didn't hold a job. You go with me on Memorial Day and you stand in Arlington National
Cemetery, where I have more friends buried than I'd like to remember, and you watch
those waving flags. You stand there, and you think about this nation, and you tell ME that those people didn't have a job? I'll tell you, Howard Metzenbaum; you should be on your knees every day of your life thanking God that there were some men -- SOME MEN -- who held
REAL jobs. And they required a dedication to a purpose -- and a love of country and a
dedication to duty -- that was more important than life itself. And their self-sacrifice is what made this country possible.

I HAVE held a job, Howard! What about you?"

For those who don't remember -- During W.W.II, Howard Metzenbaum was an attorney representing the Communist Party in the USA. Now he's a Senator!

If you can read this, thank a teacher. If you are reading it in English thank a Veteran. It might not be a bad idea to keep this circulating...."

1. snopes on this
Glenn did say this, but it's an old, old note. Metzenbaum hasn't been a Senator in years.

26. So did Metzenbaum really ever represent CPUSA?
According to Snopes, he was a successful entrepreneur - nothing about being a lawyer...

Isn't it interesting that the RW spam stories are always distorted beyond recognition?

2. There have been some pretty graphic pictures of
mutilated Iraqi kids.
I keep some saved in a folder on my desktop.
Whenever I got an e-mail like that, I'd click "Reply To All" to get the whole mailing list, insert a few dead Iraqi babies, and click "Send.
All the wing-nuts have me off their lists now. Brutish, yet effective.

Sometimes a shock is what it takes. The only dead people they e-mailed around to one another were Uday and Qusay.
People offended by flag-draped caskets need a dose of hard-meat reality every now and again.

5. I didn't know it was possible to combine so many lies
"FDR...led us into World War II. Germany never attacked us: Japan did."

Germany declared war on us after we declared war on Japan

"Clinton...went to war in Bosnia without UN or French consent, Bosnia never attacked us."

We went there to defend human rights

"He was offered Osama bin Laden's head on a platter three times by Sudan and did nothing. Osama has attacked us on multiple occasions."

This is a lie

"In the years since terrorists attacked us President Bush has ....liberated two countries, crushed the Taliban, crippled al-Qaida, put nuclear inspectors in Libya, Iran and North Korea without firing a shot, and captured a terrorist who slaughtered 300,000 of his own people."

Didn't Bush Liberate the Drug Dealers in Afghanistan, al Qaeda has a fresh supply of propaganda saying America is just some imperialist nation, and Iran and North Korea are making nuclear weapons

"The Democrats are complaining about how long the war is taking, but...It took less time to take Iraq than it took Janet Reno to take the Branch Davidian compound.
It took less time to take Iraq than it took to count the votes in Florida!!!!"

AND BUSH HAD 9 MONTHS TO STOP THE TERRORIST ATTACKS OF 9/11 FROM HAPPENING. DID HE STOP THEM?

25. Another statistic - six times more people die every year in the US
from lack of health care than died on 9/11. 18,500 every year, year in, year out. How pathetic is that? Richest, most powerful nation in the world and we can't stop our own citizens from dying from the awful condition of just being too poor to afford decent health care. This factoid was derived from Sy Hersh's lecture last week.

I love how they slant the casualty count to only include 'murican numbers, no coalition, no iraqis...but of course they don't really matter.

Im sure the open minded jack booted neoCON death cult bushit worshippers are feeling so victimized by our nation of liberal and progressive idolatry.

Im also sure that if we here on the left were more openminded they'd be very open to re-negotiating their little 3 part agenda for us.

10. Something seriously wrong with the math here:
"...It took less time to take Iraq than it took Janet Reno to take the Branch Davidian compound. That was a 51-day operation. We've been looking for evidence of chemical weapons in Iraq for less time than it took Hillary Clinton to find the Rose Law Firm billing records... ...It took less time to take Iraq than it took to count the votes in Florida..."

Last time I checked, the war has drug on for almost two years, the fruitless search for WMD's ended months ago, and we still haven't taken Iraq.

It must be very old, unless of course the sender actually believed the "mission accomplished" bullshit and has been living in a propaganda-fed right-wing fantasy world since, which is just as true.

Remember the "Advisers" we sent over there?

Lies, straw-men, misdirection, distortion.
If it comes from the Right, there will be a shortage of truth and facts.

36. Here ya go--unfortunately, it's from the WaPo

"The government of Sudan, employing a back channel direct from its president to the Central Intelligence Agency, offered in the early spring of 1996 to arrest Osama bin Laden and place him in Saudi custody, according to officials and former officials in all three countries.

The Clinton administration struggled to find a way to accept the offer in secret contacts that stretched from a meeting at a Rosslyn hotel on March 3, 1996, to a fax that closed the door on the effort 10 weeks later. Unable to persuade the Saudis to accept bin Laden, and lacking a case to indict him in U.S. courts at the time, the Clinton administration finally gave up on the capture.

Sudan expelled bin Laden on May 18, 1996, to Afghanistan. From there, he is thought to have planned and financed the twin embassy bombings of 1998, the near-destruction of the USS Cole a year ago and last month's devastation in New York and Washington."
