Should a nation try to make "progress"?
Why would that be so bad? Shouldn't we always strive to progress into the future? Isn't that what true "progressives" stand for?

1. I would think progressives would certainly be for progress
but I also suspect that progressives want to have some input in deciding how "progress" can be characterized.

Progress toward laissez-faire business practice is probably not what a progressive would have in mind.

2. Depends on your definition of progress.
I think we need to try to rid ourselves of poverty and disease -- that's what kind of progress I'd like to see.

But progress for the sake of progress? I don't know. I mean, we're going into the future whether we like it or not! We don't need to bring the latest plasma TV along...
