SS propaganda
I'm sure this has been discussed already but I'm not sure if anyone has posted the actual text busholini and his minions are spoon-feeding all their tax paying serfs. Here it is, direct from my most recent Social Security 'benefits' statement. It is unaltered save for the bold text which I added.

Social Security is a compact between generations. For
more than 60 years, America has kept the promise of
security for its workers and their families. But now, the
Social Security system is facing serious future financial
problems, and action is needed soon to make sure that
the system is sound when today's younger workers are
ready for retirement.

Today there are almost 36 million Americans age 65 or
older. Their Social Security retirement benefits are funded
by today's workers and their employers who jointly pay
Social Security taxes -just as the money they paid into
Social Security was used to pay benefits to those who
retired before them. Unless action is taken soon to
strengthen Social Security, in just 14 years we will begin
paying more in benefits than we collect in taxes. Without
changes, by 2042 the Social Security Trust Fund will be
exhausted.*
By then, the number of Americans 65 or
older is expected to have doubled. There won't be enough
younger people working to pay all of the benefits owed to
those who are retiring. At that point, there will be enough
money to pay only about 73 cents for each dollar of
scheduled benefits. We will need to resolve these issues
soon to make sure Social Security continues to provide a
foundation of protection for future generations as it has
done in the past.

---They really are shameless fucks, eh?

1. All of the above is true - no lies - so that is NOT ALL BUSH IS SAYING
Since the lies are many, amazing that your excerpt has none!

:-)

2. My point is only that they are using the benefit statement itself...
...to spread the meme that it is both prudent and necessary to take immediate, however ill-advised, action, to avoid this 'crisis'. It would be like your bank sending you a statement informing you that your savings account is a poor place to be leaving your money; that you would be better served moving your nest egg into an investment account in another financial institution.

And, in what other realm is our fearless leader so concerned about events so far into the future?

3. True - but the Soc Sec telephone system wait message is the same
They have no problem using gov money to sell GOP policy - even if it is illegal.

Thanks for pointing out I had missed your point - that happens more often these days to me - sigh :-) Do not get old! :-)

The idea that Soc Sec is an investment - and not insurance - is the big lie that media is helping the GOP to sell. This just fits in - albeit ilegally - with that theme.

The fact that the 3rd projection Social Security Administration Actuarial Projection using an assumption of 2.6% GDP growth - below the average of 3% but above the 1.9% used for the Trust Fund runs out Projection number 2 numbers - shows that there is NEVER a problem - seems to be lost on our media.

5. Yep! Until at least 2042; and Krugman says the SS Actuaries will release
in the next few days an even more shocking analysis. Basically that their numbers thus far have been "conservative"...and that the projected 2042 solvency date is TOO SOON. That SS is solvent (WITHOUT changes) for considerably longer than the earlier, "conservative" 2042 date.

Sorry Repugs, get your paws of OUR money!
