Terri Schiavo- Educate Yourselves Already!!!! www.abstractappeal.com
www.abstractappeal.com

The website above has all of the publicly available court documents. All of them. Read them. Then come on here and bloviate about Terri.

I mean, read first!!!!! Read what Judge Greer had to say about the HOURS of tapes. Read what experts had to say about the state of Terri's deteriorating brain. Read what the state-appointed guardian ad-litem had to say.

AAAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!! Read the documents!!!

Thank you.

1. I second this!
It's an excellent source of unbiased information. If you only have time for one thing, I recommend the Dec 2003 Guardian ad litem report for the governor. It goes through the whole saga.

2. Thank you! I can't believe how many people
keep repeating the same talking points that come from the parents' biased website. What the Schindlers are doing to Terri is unconscionable. I hope she finally finds peace. I am a daughter, a wife and a mother and I wouldn't want any of my loved ones to be in Terri's condition and I have made it known that I wouldn't want it either. Unfortunately, the only option is removal of the feeding tube. Euthanasia isn't legal.

Read the unbiased story, I have.

3. Thank You!! I'm just furious that people
go to website where you can download a freakin' prayer card for legal opinions.....but can't go read the actual court opinions.

4. Read? READ?
How do you expect me to reinforce my busy-body world view if I'm armed with facts? As IF!

Ignorance is the entire basis of my narrow, dogmatic, prejudicial outlook. Facts won't help me make my case the Terri's husband is a money-grubbing, wife-hating, murderous jerk so I have no use for them.

Wake me when you have more gossip, rumour or innuendo.

8. Now you're talkin'!
Did I just hear an Atlanta radio station say that Michael Jackson masturbated to the ultra-sound of Laci's unborn baby because Scott was away being plowed by Jeff Gannon who hid the WRINKLED Martha Stewart sheets in Joe Biden's desk after seeing Joe's assistant at a party where Kobi was injecting steriods to an underage girl with his penis!

I better start a new thread! LOL!

I'm sorry to hijack your thread and I appreciate your link. I just wanted to rage against the insanity for a moment.

I've been more than a "little freaked" out by many of the posts r/t Terri. I hope those who feel emotionally invested in this DO take the time read the info you have given.

13. Thank you! As a clinical neuroscientist, I can say her brain is toast
My specialty is Alzheimer's disease, so I've seen my fair share of brain atrophy and Schiavo shows cortical atrophy & ex vacuo ventricular changes worse than the most severe (read as near death) Alzheimer's patients.

During my clinical training years, I saw quite a few severe brain injury patients, some with complete hemispherectomies (i.e., removal of half of the brain) and lobectomies (i.e., removal of complete portions of certain brain lobes). Most recovered some function, but this depended upon some degree of normal brain tissue remaining that could compensate for the damaged/removed regions. The brain can be quite plastic in very young individuals and to a much lesser degree in adults...but when there is CLEAR EVIDENCE THAT THE WHOLE CORTEX IS TOAST (as in the Schiavo case) there are no raw materials for the brain to co-opt for compensation.

Schiavo will be in this same state for the rest of her life...PERIOD. This is a scientific fact divorced from sentimentality, hope, or religious beliefs. I'm sorry for her, her husband, and her parents. This is a tragic story, but holding onto the notion that she is going to "rise again" is sheer DELUSION.

JB

Not that I expect the delusional to pay attention to your words, but the rest of us can hope. :)

16. The metaphysics of the brain/behavior relationship is threatening to some
Edited on Sun Mar-13-05 10:56 PM by AngryWhiteLiberal
No problem. What blows me away is the 10 sec. video that the media keeps on playing showing Schiavo "reacting" to stimuli (even worms react to stimuli...but this doesn't denote consciousness)...while they have REFUSED to show pictures of her most recent CT/MRI scans that clearly show IRREFUTABLE EVIDENCE of SEVERE BRAIN DAMAGE.

Cases like Schiavo's on a very basic level call into question the very notion of the soul, freewill, consciousness as the defining characteristic of being human, and the arbitariness of the "real world". Very religious types & rank-in-file Repukes tend to be threatened by such messy philosophical conundrums and the cold FACTS that science presents in situations that may be contrary to one's hopes and desires.

17. The stimulus video clips bothered me, too.
It's almost as if her parents know that she will at times react to stimuli and want to pass this off as cognizance. The videos come off as some crude experiments, and it's very creepy.

19. Those tapes were edited---
Funny how the news reports never mention the heavy editing or the fact that the judicial decisions were made after seeing hours of tapes--

Yep, they don't like shades of gray.
I never thought of their reaction as feeling threatened though,
since so many of them are predatory. Gives food for thought.

20. Hmm... none of the people who think she might wake up
and be fine have weighed in yet. I'll be watching this thread to see if they do, and if so, what they say.

22. I don't think she'll wake up and recover or be fine at all. I just don't
think she should be starved to death because her husband won't divorce her.

Her parents want to care for her in perpetuity.

Let them.

23. But for god's sake, why?
Why keep a person in this half-living limbo who by all the evidence explicitly didn't want to be kept in such a state? Why not give up her bed and care to someone who needs it more? She won't feel pain in starving to death. She won't feel anything. She'll just be allowed to go on to whatever's next.

I don't think she's concious of anything, but if she was, it would be a vague, horrible sense of urgency, of let me go, let me die, let me move on.
