BOXER's Petition to frist | ANWAR
Edited on Mon Mar-14-05 04:40 PM by nostamj

from an email I received from Boxer's PAC today:

Now we face the ultimate special interest issue: Drilling in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. For six months of oil, not to be realized for ten years, my colleagues seem bent on handing over this most pristine land to the big oil companies. Never mind that we can save the equivalent of an infinite number of ANWR fields by simply raising fuel economy a modest amount -- that doesn't matter. The Republicans don't care about the native peoples whose lives will be ruined; they don't care that President Eisenhower set this land aside; they don't care about the more than one hundred species of wildlife that depend on this refuge.

What they do care about is the precedent. If they open up ANWR, they'll think they can do anything to the environment -- anything at all. Drilling in Yosemite? In the Grand Canyon? What's next?

Stand with me and reject any attempts to open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for oil drilling -- sign my petition today!

I urgently need your help. Last week, the Republican leadership snuck a provision into the Budget bill that moves us one step closer to opening ANWR to drilling. It's a sneaky way of trying to get what they want without having to vote on it directly.

We can't let that happen! I urge you to sign my new petition to Republican Leader Bill Frist -- tell him that any Republicans who vote to open up the Alaska wilderness to oil drilling will pay a price in the next election. The Budget bill with this terrible ANWR provision will be up for a vote in the Senate by the end of the week. Let the Republican leadership know that we won't forget the votes they cast.

Sign my petition to Bill Frist today -- stand firm against Republican efforts to open up ANWR!

I need you now more than ever. Please stand with me on this critical issue.

PETITON TO FRIST

2. I just tried and got "Senator Bill Frist was
unreachable. Please download and mail letter." So, I downloaded it. I've signed her other petitions before and haven't had a problem.

10. Same thing happened to me just a few minutes ago...
What does this mean? Does Sen Frist have his email "turned off" to avoid what he is expecting to be a barrage of emails against ANWR drilling?

First, he and the GOP sneak this into the budget and then he ignores the public outcry. What a pack of cowards!

9. Sorry to piss on your thread
Edited on Mon Mar-14-05 04:54 PM by sandnsea
Truly I am.

But flpoljunkie has been posting on this since Friday when Bobby Kennedy's organization sent out an alert.

I posted talking points and a toll free phone number to call this morning.

Boxer sends out an email and you all go into a frenzy?

And you don't think you're a bunch of lemmings, just like the right?

Or is it that clicking an email is all the activism you want to do?

15. It's not directed at you
Which is why I said sorry to piss on your thread.

It's directed at the people who ignored all the other ANWR threads, until something came from Barbara Boxer. Which I think is lemming behavior.

20. Right, like everybody else does
As long as everybody pisses in unison, then everybody on DU is happy.

It's not about me, it's about the issue. It's sad so many people can't respond to the issue unless orders come down from Howard Dean or Barbara Boxer. Just sayin'.

22. It is sad
Which is why I won't take a break. One person can't lead on every single thing. Cantwell is apparently introducing the amendment to pull ANWR out of the budget. Somebody pissed all over that thread because Cantwell isn't pure enough. I could probably find some Boxer votes that people wouldn't like too.

This eating of our own and schizophrenic candidate worship has got to stop.

14. Not sure the poster is the one to blame here
Edited on Mon Mar-14-05 05:08 PM by Mass
The problem is the lack of coordination in action, once again.

It seems that some senators dont seem to be able to coordinate with grassroots organizations for these types of action. This is not the first time this happens and while Boxer is outstanding in her support for the good cause, her mailings seem more and more as a mean to promote herself rather than to advance the cause.

I dont think the initial poster is to blame here.

BTW, I already did that this week-end, when I received the initial call for action.

16. I don't blame the poster
As I said above. I don't even have a problem with Boxer's email. I have a problem with people who won't act unless a particular person tells them too.
