Why are the republicans AGAINST INVESTING in the USA?
Edited on Wed Mar-16-05 08:03 PM by Pobeka
This is, after all what taxes are -- an investment in our great country and the infrastructure that holds it together as a cultural entity.

I can only conclude that they no longer believe in the USA if they are urging everyone to stop investing tax dollars in the USA.

As the GOP hard-right faction continues to drag this country into unimaginable levels of debt and economic despair, I'm going to ask this question of the moderates.

On edit: Experiment with capitalizing words in thread title.

1. I don't understand it either
if they love this country so much, why should they object to tax rates that keep it well maintained

I know I've mentioned this in another post but on yesterday's show on Jerry Springer he talked about tax's and made a good point. He said we ALL have to do our part and the people who make more money should have to help a little more so we can progress. You can hear the archived segment on his talk show website. I believe it's springerontheradio.com
If that's not it you can always google it. But he also was saying how tax's go for public funding needs like picking up the garbage, public education with county schools and community colleges, construction on your town with roads and buildings and whatnot. We all have to pay our parts or we won't ever progress.

11. That is the message we need to say
If you make a lot of money, you have to give some back to benefit the society that made you wealthy

12. I disagree. Not with the intent, but with the words.
Just because I strike it rich, I don't have to *give* some of it back. This is the argument we face -- the standard free-market let the best one win argument.

We have to turn the words, and get to the core of the issue -- which is if you want to get the most out of this society, you need to invest in it. Failure to invest in society is not just greedy, but is equivalent to rejection of the society as well.

3. Because they hate America ....
Because they are greedy and self centered ...

It's all about THEM and THEIR wealth: each man grabs as much as he can by lying, cheating, stealing and defrauding as many citizens as possible .....

They hate Darwinian science, but love Darwinian civics ....

Go figure ....

7. Funny isn't it?
Really shows a lot. They also want to turn everything into faith-based. On this one Christian board I chat on some people on there were saying the end times were coming because we're so fallen and how people are. So they obviously want people to come to Jesus and convert people and save as many people as possible. It's like a contest or something. Let's see who can save the most people. The person who wins will get the biggest prize.

10. I don't know Pobeka, just what is framing anyway?
I don't know if the investment meme is unique, I've stayed largely away from DU and the media to get recharged -- but I wonder if we can ever really win what we should if we don't get smarter about how we frame our arguments, who we unintentionally alienate with unnecessary derogatory comments which make us feel better and connected when "preaching to the choir", but it's the ones out in the pews we have to convert. And to do that means we have to speak in languages and symbolic references they will respond to.

8. cuse they think that everything is run better like a business
and that taxes are wasted buy government that for example if a company like enron could control your electrical prices it would make it cheaper, because of the competition for your business. but this doesn't take into account the greed and corruption at the top of the company's.
the reason we are screwed is because business has be corrupt.

think about the disparity between the CEO and the regular worker, now i know the CEO should make more then a secretary but it shouldn't be more then maybe 10-12 times as much that would mean that the ceo's of today would be making what like 400,000 if a secretary made 35000. this is not what happens as we all know the CEO of Major companies are making tens of millions of dollars. in Europe company's are more in-line with the 10-12x regular worker.
