Do you believe shrub has the answer for SS or is he blowing in the wind?
I believe he is blowing in the wind since he is not producing his plan to the Congress or Senate. He is doing a lot of talking, blowing a lot of wind. I really believe he does not have a solution and waiting for someone to give the answer for him to take the credit.

1. It's Bush what do you expect?
He's been trying to sell his plan since 1978 when he first ran for Congress. The republicans have been trying to destroy SS since FDR invented it. Plus he doesn't give out his full plan or sit down with democrats and talk to them. So just full of wind.

8. I'll try again
I believe there is a short fall in SS, but I believe (and I have no hard facts just from what I read)the short fall is due to the dipping into SS. This is my own personal thoughts from what I've read, stop the dipping or the IOU's into SS. There would be plenty of money if the dipping into the plan would stop. If money is not available, no one is allowed to take money from SS.

4. I think he's using SS as cover to push other, more sinister policies...
through Congress: bankruptcy, ANWR, Medicaid cuts, etc.

5. From what I have heard, he has tripped over his tongue and
almost admitted that the plan is to end SS so that the money he has taken to finance his tax cuts doesn't have to be paid back. In other words he's cheating all baby boomer of their SS check in the future.

7. The neoCONs ALWAYS have pre-conceived plans waiting in the shadows.
If you haven't learned that by now,...well,...*shake* wake UP!!!

Frankly, throwing our nation into war while concentrating wealth and power ties into bankrupting government-sponsored programs which protect the welfare of our citizens at the expense of tyrants.

We are living in a neoCON free-for-all power-mongering and profiteering scheme that has been pre-planned, ready-in-wait for the moment they might gain the power to execute.

10. Private Accounts are a 'trojan horse' since they're carve-outs
of around $2 trillion from the existing program and add to the deficit...therefore solving NOTHING.

You can already do 'private accounts' simply by buying yourself an annuity or putting money into an IRA. Why would you want the government involved in this private accounts system (if you are a True Republican) in the first place ? I thought self-reliant self-made macho men didn't need government's 'nanny state' wimpy programs ?

Bush's pre-fab media machine is what scares me. The "Lie Factory" of the Office of Special Plans within DoD got the Iraq War pushed through. What will they create to do the lying for a domestic operation like destroying Social Security ?

11. There is one very good thing about private accounts.
It would prevent the government from raiding SS funds for general taxes. Bush's "tax cuts" would have been impossible. Other than that I can't find anything good about private accounts.

15. Nope, never had never will, just a diversionary tactic to show he
has no idea how to fix his mess in the next 4 years. There is a war going on and troops are dying, coming home severely maimed and the news focus on*SS, seems someone would point this out. If I was a soldier listening to the news I would surely wonder where do I fit in the 60 days dedicated to SS and not 1 day of fake town hall meetings to get input on the war they are stuck in.
