George Bush Supports Congressional Investigation Of Baseball Players
George W. Bush made this statement yesterday in support of the Congressional committee hearing.

``I appreciate the fact that baseball is addressing this, and I appreciate that Congress is paying attention to this,'' he said at a White House news conference. ``I understand that when a professional athlete uses steroids, it sends a terrible signal to young people.''

Perhaps it's a knee-jerk reaction, however, whenever George Bush supports something I tend to oppose it.

And does everything really think the "investigation of baseball" will not be expanded to go after those "big name liberal Hollywood" stars?

3. this is a tough one for bush...
he usually supports billionaire business owners and works against unions. but the players union is made up of overpaid millionaires who are largely removed from the reality of the average joe. throw in that many of the players go around talking about god and jesus all the time and they may be amongst his core.

he'll probably just end up supporting a tax incentive for owners to support a sham testing policy, and a tax break on players, because all that money is such a burden.

7. The "Investigation" Is Targeting The Players Union
You will find lots of right-wing attacks on the baseball players union. They are using the "steroid" issue. That is the real target of this congressional "investigation" And that's why George Bush and every right-wing radio talking head and anti-union outfit is applauding these "hearings".

The Professional Baseball Players Association recently reached an agreement with management for a more effective drug testing program. Let it work. Right-wingers are attacking this union-management agreement on drugs.

And once again .... if Congress moves on with its "investigation" of baseball stars, will it be expanded to cover other "role models" like actors, singers, etc.,

If you give the right-wing a club they will beat you to death with it. They very well may use this club to go after those "left-wing liberal Hollywood types" who they claim are a bunch of drug addicts.

This congressional investigation has nothing to do with "protecting the little children" from drugs. It could lead to tougher federal drug enforcement laws against ALL those use drugs, even legal prescription drugs like steroids. They just might make them illegal. These laws won't just be used against ballplayers and Hollywood celebrities. The government could target anyone they don't like because of their political views and activities.

5. Yeah, let's waste some more taxpayers money .
I'm pretty sure that the baseball leagues have enough money to police themselves. Yikes again!

6. Of course he supports investigating sports celebs for
drugs. As long as we have Michael Jackson, et al being investigated the entertainment driven media won't look into other stuff--like people dieing in the middle east, the obvious lies about social security and the other stuff that really affects us.
