1. While I respect
Waxman, there are far too many important things to investigate !
Not upset about it though because it's just another kick in the pants.

3. it's the politics of distraction
hold hearings on this sort of thing, that doesn't really have anything to do with government, and ignore the other things they should be working on, like voting reform.

4. No, because congress will now start investigating everyone's lives
If some players broke the law, arrest them and let the courts take care of it.

players to name names...right?

My Feeling Exactly!
My feeling exactly!

George W. Bush made this statement yesterday in support of the Congressional committee hearing.

``I appreciate the fact that baseball is addressing this, and I appreciate that Congress is paying attention to this,'' he said at a White House news conference. ``I understand that when a professional athlete uses steroids, it sends a terrible signal to young people.''

7. Let law enforcement handle this; Congress should be investigating other
This is a waste of taxpayer money. Outside the sports community, who honestly gives two shits worth a damn what happens with dumbasses who take steroids to get a better game? Baseball steroid abuse or the war in Iraq? War? Steroid abuse? Is it any question what is important here?

Not only do we have the war to deal with, but we've also got the Social Security fight, and we've got other looming battles. Where is the context, America?

16. common first reactions
(Surrounded by treasonous crimes and they want to
investigate the powderpuff issue of baseball steroids.
Perhaps they are doing this to at least give an appearance
they are "INVESTIGATING" something!)

I was in a car with a friend when we first heard this story on NPR. Knowing what my first thought was, I wanted to hear her reaction.
"What do you think about this? (Congress investigating baseball steroid use).
She echoed my thoughts perfectly.
"They don't have anything more important to do?!"

8. Waxman and Davis are on crack...
...if they think they will ever get the whole story about drug use in baseball.

One of the WaPo's sportswriters, Tony Kornheiser, theorized on his TV show yesterday that Davis has an axe to grind about the placement of the Montreal Expos in Washington DC rather than (surprise, surprise) Davis's constituency in Northern Virginia.

What is really funny is one of the sub committees under the gov't reform committee is the subcommittee that would investigate Halliburton for overages in iraq! --so much for better things to do.

12. Anyone who's an athlete knows
Even the drug tested sports have people getting away with it.

Scientists are developing better testing while other Scientists are developing better ways to beat the test.

Besides modifying athletes genes will be the next big thing and would be undetectible in the tests we have now. This will create super athletes far better than steroids will.

15. Chemical McCarthyism?
Baseball Players Civil Liberties Being Flushed Down The Toilet
Chemical McCarthyism
By Matt Welch

Reason
March 15, 2005.

Does your urine belong to Congress? Should private citizens not suspected of any wrongdoing be hauled up to Capitol Hill and grilled under oath, on live TV, about what substances they've put in their bodies?

For once, the urinalysis enthusiasts in the nation's sports pages are not joining as one to cheer on the feds. Epithets like "witch hunt" and "grandstanding politicians" are being tossed around, and for the first time in my memory, sportswriters are expressing concern about privacy rights and the long reach of Uncle Sam.

I think they feel empowered to do whatever they want," Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Randy Wolf said last week, while emphasizing that he opposes steroid use. "You look at what they did with the 'confidential' drug tests that we had ... they said, 'Eh, we don't care if it was confidential or not. We're going to do what we want with it.'

"It's kind of a 1984 deal where basically, they want to know everything you're doing at all times, and because we're in the public spotlight our civil liberties are flushed down the toilet. It's chemical McCarthyism."

18. Congressman Waxman Ought To Accept The Facts And Leave Ball Players Alone
"Why should we believe that the baseball commissioner and the baseball union will want to do something when we have a 30-year record of them not responding to this problem?" asked Henry Waxman of California, the committee's ranking Democrat.

Bull shit Congressman Waxman! You know that last year over 1,000 random drug tests of ball players were conducted. Only 12 were positive!

And under the tougher rules this year I would be surprised if any test positive. Curt Shilling said he guesses that somewhere between 5 and 10 out of over 1,0000 major league ball players might still be using steroids.

That's hardly an epedemic requiring Congress to pass legislation prohibiting steroid use in baseball. We don't need "Big Government" spying on our private lives.
