Doonesbury Classics
At the local recycling center recently, in the 'swapshop' where folks can leave items to be claimed, i happened upon a box of books.
Included in the box were 8 Doonesbury collections from the 70's, 80's and 90's. Amazing that someone would just leave these, but really glad they did. All were in great condition, suprised they weren't sold to a used bookstore.

but the interesting part is, as i've thumbed through a few of them, how current the themes and episodes of some of the stories still are. One jumped out at me, Roland Hedley investigating the IranScam...

does this look current, or somewhat prescient?
Life imitating art?

1. What a great find!
The similarities are eerie, aren't they? On the daily dose Doonesbury site you can view strips published on this date 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 years ago.
I don't think Roland (or Gary) will be retiring anytime soon.

2. i was curious if his daily strip
contains everything that end up in these collections i have now, or were some exclusive to the collections he published?

and that could be Rather above, which is why it jumped out at me.

3. Good question.
Did you check out the site?:
http://www.doonesbury.com/

You can order some reprints and books but I'll bet what you've got is of more value because they are originals.
Dude, I would get them mounted on poster-board and framed.
The fact that the strip is truly timeless becomes more apparent every day.
