Why did CNN cover the baseball BS today?
Did anyone else find it strange they had *live* coverage of this?

You know, I can't think of ONE other thing FOX, CNN, etc have had live coverage of in regards to the congress. Was there live coverage of the iraq vote? Live coverage of the bankruptcy vote? Live coverage of drilling Alaska? No, no, and no.

Yet, they gave live coverage to this BS which *should* be number 9875 down on the nations list of concerns.

BTW - with this baseball probe congress has sunk to a new low. People are with out jobs, health care, food, etc and THIS is the priority.

2. I wondered the same thing.
It convinces me that there is no longer a news business in this country.

4. I agree about the drama
Also a diversion. I think they're up to something. Why else would they get Congress involved in this nonense? This should be up to a state judge.

6. MSGOP Kept Going After CNNServative Got Bored...
Let's see what right wing hot buttons we have here:

Of course there's the drugs...shame on these high-paid oafs for performing their jobs while under the influence of a controlled substance that they've abused...they might want to become a right wing, hate radio talk show icon.

Then there's the fact many of these players are black and/or hispanic...those damn minorities should be grateful we don't have them picking cotton and cleaning our pools. I'll bet that Sosa feller probably is an illegal Mexican while we're at it.

Baseball really isn't a manly sport like Football or Nascar racing and most the teams are in blue states...it was so enlightening seeing Repugnican hit-goons from Indiana and Alabama putting the screws to these druggies.

In a brief moment of seriousness, Congress does have the right to investigate thanks to baseball's "Exemption Rule" that gives them a monopoly (and the reason Selig dragged his sad ass into the hearings) and this subject should be investigated. The issue of drug abuse in sports has long been a sham and if this forces all these rich owners to pay REAL fines, not token ones when their players are caught, or a repeat offender is kicked out of the game and has to join the real world, I see nothing wrong with that.

Yes, the Corporate media coverage is inane and there are so many more important issues to cover, but dare I say, this was better than the Peterson-Jacko-Amber Smith crap that predominates most the propoganda these networks call "news".

Unfortunately it's getting worse, not better.

7. There is NO NEWS people!
IT's all entertainment. So Sports is an acceptable story.

(But I noticed that it was live on MSNBC for Countdown when I switched-more proof Countdown is going down)

The war is not. The enivronment is not. The economy is not.

Michael Jackson, Martha Stewart, Scott Peterson-their idea of news.

Janet Jackson's boob.

Death porn-hostage stories, trees falling on people-death is acceptable-that's entertainment too.

It's not however, NEWS, that affects anybody but the few people involved lives.

It's a distraction from reality. Cause you see if the people had reality and not just a distraction-why they would know the truth. Can't have that. And John Kerry would most certainly be president-they couldn't have rigged 90% of the votes. But I'm sure they are working on it.

11. Because they're the POODLE PRESS!!! It's obviously a distraction from the
real news, which isn't flattering to the blivet**-in-chief. He loved talking about it in yesterday's press conference, too, because it combines elements that appeal to so many Americans - sports, drugs, and celebrity gossip. What a crock - as if he gave a damn about steroid use when he had that sports team some years back.

I'm trying to introduce "Poodle Press" for the more groveling specimens in the corporate media in this thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=132&topic_id=1668099#1668450

There are a LOT of advantages to using this term as a reframing tool, amazing numbers of great spin-offs, and it's a lot more satisfying that "corporate media." (MSM for "mainstream media" is even worse - it basically pays them a compliment at the expense of the people who REALLY are exposing the truth.)

13. Welcome to DU, OTownGuy!
I agree with you. They are hiding the real news, which is scary in a way that makes them look very bad, with one story after another designed to grab attention. I'm sure they had this standing by while the Michael Jackson trial was still generating enough press to cover them.

The Poodle Press!!

15. I'm with you --
I can't believe the play this is getting -- who in the hell cares?? Not me -- if it's illegal, then haul them away -- end of story. It was nuts that the President brought this up in the SOU, too. I loved the way they all started out saying how much they had given to their foundations/causes -- 3 million of my OWN money -- just to remind everyone that they are good guys (like they didn't take the tax advantage for doing so). And my wife who is a skin cancer survivor --her and a million others -- got a bill in Az to teach kids sun safety! PLEASEEEEEE!!!!!
