Fox gets stupider and stupider every day -- Now the Easter Bunny is
under attack. :eyes:

'Why Is the Easter Bunny Under Attack?'

That was one of the topics on today's "Hannity and Lame Replacement for That Other Guy" show.

Here's the promo from the Fox News site:

Why is the "Easter bunny" under attack? You won't believe what some malls in Florida have planned less than two weeks before one of biggest day's on the Christian calendar.

But actually, we would believe it because we already discussed it last Saturday. (To recap the story: three malls in the Palm Beach area are calling their seasonal varmints by names other than the Easter Bunny, so as to get all parents, not just the Christian ones, to bring the tikes to the mall to get some chocolate eggs and then buy a bunch of stuff from Toys 'R Us).

However, we predicted that it would be Bill O'Reilly who would spearhead the "Easter is under attack" call to arms, not Sean Hannity. So, I guess we aren't as prescient as we thought.

5. What the hell does the bunny have to do with the now-Christian nature
of this formerly 'pagan' spring festival??? My God...Easter is already almost as commercial and removed from theological underpinnings as is Christmas; it's turned into just an excuse to BUY MORE STUFF: new outfits, big dinner, candy candy candy cards flowers candy...
I'm sorry, but if one is NOT Christian, why would one "celebrate" Easter OR Christmas????
Do Christians celebrate Hanukkah? Do Jews observe Ramadan? All these MORONS 'defending' Christian holidays are contributing to making them meaningless commercial sales tools more than anything.
Spinsanity makes me puke. What a turd he is.
Green puke too, just in honor of the day.

7. As a proud agnostic
I will celebrate just about anything, because I like to celebrate.

I celebrate Christmas and Hannukah on Dec. 25 with my Jewish friends. We do latkas and standing rib roast. I have a huge tree and a wreath and lots of presents. And I always pop some bubbly on the solstice and equinoxes, too. I've been to my neighbors Eids party, a Muslim feast.

Mostly for Easter I just eat chocolate eggs and do Peep wars in the microwave. I don't do the eggs though because they are high in cholesterol. I probably will put on a CD of The Right of Spring.

26. Apparently the holiday used to be for the pagan goddess Oester.
and the eggs were token symbols of fertility.

After the paternalists slaughterd the goddess centered religions (the story is told in the bible if you know how to read between the lines, the slaughter of the Canaanites, the references to the ancient Goddess Asherah, the references to the "whore of Babylon") they co-opted all of the religions, but the clues and hints still remain. Christmas apparently coincides with one of these holidays, has absolutely nothing to do with the actual birth of Christ. The Christ persona is actually a very old recurring myth of the brother/son/consort of the original mother god, who ends up being sacrificied in a lot of ancient cultures, sometimes on a yearly basis, to coincide with the death and rebirth of the sun on the solstice, which is why the original holiday that the xtians pasted over as xmas takes place right around the time of winter soltice.

None of their shit is original, except maybe the self-righteousness and the persecution complex. Even the so-called "blood of life/blood of Christ" referred to menstrual blood.

39. Guess what you're supposed to serve for Easter dinner?
I'm shocked--SHOCKED, I tell ya--that the fundies haven't started eating rabbit the night before Easter. Kind of a symbolic smiting of the Easter Bunny.

I was gonna say Ether Bunny...but that one belongs in the army humor thread.

6. Media Diversion #4930...
Can't ya smell this one about to be a big story all next week...Yep, Easter Bunny and xtianity under attack...by those evil libruls and their "librul media"...just like they tried to take "christ out of xmas".

These goons are on a roll...they've got the corporate media trying to out flog themselves to see whose the more "devout" or "family oriented" (evil buzzword) in their coverage. They've got a lot of mileage on the crosses in the court house, school prayer, ten commandments, creationism and other non-issues, so now they've found one more. When it rains it pours.

Of course this story will be far more important than another layoff of 2,000 jobs or the senseless deaths of more young Americans in a war for profit or examining their own comprised "profession".

Fortunately I'm immune to all these fairy tales or I'd think it'd mean something.

8. Most bizarre that they would pick the 'easter bunny' to defend.
The 'bunny' is actually a PAGAN fertility spring symbol that has been incorporated into the modern consciousness...just as the Yule log and Christmas tree are PAGAN symbols.

Not only is this phony 'attack' stupid, it is also a testament to their ignorance.

22. Exactly
A lot of Christians probably don't realize it (the really extreme one's). I'm Christian and when I first started finding out about some of the holiday's branching off of pagan's and whatnot it all made sense to me. Easter is supposed to be a rememberance to Christians of the week(s) leading up to Christ's crucifixion but what does a bunny hopping around with eggs and chocolate have to do with that? Of course try telling a hard core fundie about it and they'd say you're being blasphameus. I think it's cool to celebrate other holiday's and traditions in other religions. Why is it always the real extreme loudmouth Christians on the right who are under attack? Why not the Jews? Muslims? Pagans and wiccans? Oh that's right. They're all evil and immoral. :eyes:

11. Easter isn't even christian! Easter is the ancient feast of the fertility
goddess Estra! Hence the fertility symbols, ie: chicks, eggs, bunnies. The christians just stold this holiday from the pagans, like all their other holidays. Wish they'd be original enough to contrive and consumerize their own holidays instead of ours! We know how to celebrate Easter! We make like bunnies!

23. I agree
I think it's silly how they've done this all over the years. They don't even celebrate Christmas at the right time. According to Biblical scholars Christ was more then likely born somewhere around the spring and not the winter. Why would sheaperds be tending their flocks in the middle of a freezing night? I do know their nights get cold but according to people who are Biblical scholars and live in Israel they say there's snow in the winter months. You can find this out by google. :)

13. Attack? Well, I want that bunny from the Search for the Holy Grail
on my side.

I know that he looked all innocent and cuddly, but he sure put a whoopin' on those knights even though they had the swords.

What will these nuts come up with next to perpetuate their persecution complex. It would be nice if they would realize sometime in the near future that this crap actually turns people away from churches. I haven't taken my kids in years. Two were baptised during the sunrise service one year and the other on All Saint's Day and I won't take them anymore. Not since the rwingers made a push to take over the Episcopal Churches in my area.

"You Unwashed Hypocrites are MOCKING our Lord and Savior! You dress your children up as Demons, Ghosts and Witches--creatures DAMNED by the Good Lord Jesus Christ--and SEND THEM OUT IN PUBLIC to beg for the fodder of the Devil! The Good Lord is going to BURN THIS GOD-FORSAKEN COUNTRY IN THE LAKE OF FIRE and it will be all your fault!"

is that christian holidays are exclusionary..as are ALL religious holidays.. Do you get the warm and fuzzies just thinking about the eastern Orthodox New year?? about yom kippur?..about chinese new year??

In a multicultural/secular society it's NOT unusual at all to try and offer alternate "reasons" for a popular celebration/observance.. It's the polite and giving thing to do..

Christmas-Jesus & Santa
Easter...Jesus & Bunnies, easter eggs & candy
StPatrick's Day...(a kind of made up quasi religious one to start with)..but we also have leprechauns corned beef and cabbage..& green beer
Mother's Day- schmaltzy day to think of Mom and enrich Tele-flora, Hallmark & candy makers..fundies can always worship at the altar of St. Uterus
Halloween- a pagan-ish but benign holiday mostly about candy & wacky parties

MOST holidays have MANY applications.. but underneath they are all about COMMERCE and MARKETING :(

25. Should we email Hannity & tell him the Easter Bunny is a witch?
As several have pointed out, Easter comes from a Pagan holiday - Ostara, which celebrated Spring as a re-birth. It was believed that some of the Wise (back then, pronounced "witch") could adopt animal form. One of there favorite forms for traveling long was a rabbit. So, on Ostara, the Wise Ones would change into rabbits and give presents of eggs as symbols of birth and fertility.

So, I guess Hannity supports Witches! I have a lot of Pagan friends who won't quite know how to feel about that!

29. Why is every f*cking holiday under attack by Faux news?
Because of the amount of $$$ we consumers spend on those holiday items?

Not too long ago it was Christmas (no Happy Holidays), then Valentine's Day, now Easter.

What will they think of next? The 4th of July? Not enough flags being purchased?

This has got to be the stupidest thing ever.

The right wing has this down to a science. Their supporters in the corporate community do something like this. Then their supporters in the media raise a stink about it and blame liberals.
