...conceiving kids, or maybe just being able to conceive them, is what makes a couple fit for being married. So, I would assume that the law should forbid marriage between heterosexuals when one or the other is infertile, or when the woman has passed menopause, or...???

Burns me up.

Until those "abandoned kids stores" are empty I don't think we should hinder any capable people who are willing to give those kids a loving home. And having witnessed a lesbian couple who have done a wonderful job raising some very troubled orphaned teens who "normal" parents had no interest in, I can say for certain that gays and lesbians have the potential to be more than capable. They can be superb.
