NYC DU'ers, what event is going on tomorrow to recognize
the second anniversary of the invasion of Iraq? A march or a rally? I know of two local events in north Jersey, but is there something big in the City, and where do I get more information please.

1. UFPJ events in NYC (and elsewhere)
I've received this email from United for Peace and Justice. The link at the bottom is to the UFPJ website, which has a listing of protest events all around the country.

===========================================
JOIN IRAQ WAR VETERAN AT UNION SQUARE TO CALL FOR AN END TO THE WAR
14th Street (Q,N,R, W,4,5,6 subways)
==========================================

*******PLEASE FORWARD WIDELY*******

In over 700 cities and towns this weekend, people will be gathering to mark the 2nd anniversary of the U.S. war on Iraq. On Friday night, in NYC, we will come together with Chris Harrison, a founding member of Iraq Veterans Against the War; David Cline, President of Veterans for Peace and Vietnam veteran; and family members of active-duty service people to call for an end to the war and to bring the troops home now!

This rally, on Friday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in Union Square (at 14th St.) is to send off the bus leaving for the peace demonstration at Ft Bragg in Fayetteville, North Carolina. We will be out to lend our support for this historic event in NC that will be led by veterans and military families.

In addition to the speakers listed above we will hear from NYC high-schoolers organizing against the renewal of the draft and against nuclear weapons. We will also hear music by the Walkabout Clearwater chorus founded by Pete Seeger, the Hungry Marching Band, a 20-piece brass band, Rude Mechanical Orchestra --a radical brass band that originally formed for the demonstrations against the Republican National Convention and Quasilulu,, a women’s rock band.

Your presence is needed to begin this weekend of protest with a strong statement that the people of NY have never supported this war, that we continue to be outraged by the staggering cost of this war -–to the Iraqi people, to the U.S. military and their families, to our communities that suffer by reduced funding for education, housing and social services.

Come out to say loud and clear: BRING THE TROOPS HOME NOW!

Other events:

Sat, March 19
NON-VIOLENT ACTIONS AT RECRUITING CENTERS
Join in and/or support non-violent civil disobedience actions at recruiting centers in Manhattan, the Bronx, and Brooklyn. We will gather at three locations around the city for short rallies and then solemnly process –carrying coffins-- to the recruiting centers. Some people will commit
civil disobedience, blocking the doors of the recruitment centers or dying in. Those not wanting to risk arrest will leaflet, hold banners and coffins, and engage passersby in dialogue. For more information, visit http://www.warresisters.org

Sunday, March 20th
INTERFAITH SERVICE, 4:00 p.m. at Riverside Church at 490 Riverside Drive, bringing people of all faiths together. The service will launch the founding of Clergy and Laity Concerned about Iraq to express their moral outrage at the U.S. war and occupation of Iraq.

Rev. James Forbes (Senior Minister, Riverside Church), Susannah Heschel (Chair, Jewish Studies at Dartmouth University), Rev. T. Kenjitsu Nakagaki (Resident Minster, New York Buddhist Church), and El Hajj Talib Abdul-Rashid (Imam, Mosque of Islamic Brotherhood) will a raise a moral critique of the war. A national interfaith action agenda will be presented by Rev. Osagyefo Uhuru Sekou (Coordinator, Clergy and Laity Concerned about Iraq).
