Discredited White House correspondent for conservative press agency responds to vote on investigating his credentialing

Filed under: General— site admin @ 6:13 pm

‘Gannon’ makes statement on ‘Gannon’ resolution vote

From an email release received by RAW STORY this afternoon. ‘Jeff Gannon’ is the pseudonym for the former correspodent of a conservative press outlet, who resigned after attention to a question he asked using a falsified quote and bloggers discovered that he had been serving as a male escort.

The House Judiciary vote, which was on whether Congress should force Bush agencies to turn over information relating to Gannon’s credentialing, failed 21-10 on Republican-Democrat party lines.

#
WASHINGTON, March 17, 2005

The following is a statement by Jeff Gannon, former White House correspondent for Talon News on Wednesday’s vote on House Resolution 136*:

“I am pleased that the House Judiciary Committee is satisfied that proper procedures were followed with regard to my admittance to White House press briefings. It appears to me that a strong majority on the committee has decided that investigating the background of journalists beyond the standards already in place is unnecessary and perhaps poses a threat to a free and independent press.

”I commend members who recognized that a dangerous precedent might have been set were unfounded and partisan allegations been allowed to be used as a means to undermine the free press so essential to our democracy. The Founders believed freedom of the press to be so important that its protection was enshrined in the First Amendment of the Bill of Rights.

”I hope this vote will put these issues to rest and allow me to return to my work as a journalist.

“It is unfortunate that this matter has diverted the attention of Congress away from the pressing

challenges that face our nation, but I appreciate the results of the vote taken on Wednesday and thank the members for their consideration.”

*H.Res. 136, Directing the Attorney General and the Secretary of Homeland Security to transmit to the House of Representatives not later than 14 days after the date of the adoption of this resolution documents in the possession of those officials relating to the security investigations and background checks relating to granting access to the White House of James D. Guckert (also known as Jeff Gannon).

1. Just keep tooting your horn, "Jeff"
Karma is coming. Soon.

Depend on it.

2. Opportunity Squandered
The law of diminishing returns has spent this story. I had such hope this story could turn into something that could expose this regime's massive disinformation and intimidation campaign (and the long-running GOOP operations that make it go), but it became "Gannon" and not his handlers. They ran into their rat holes and "Gannon" is playing cat and mouse with the bloggers now.

5. It's hard to laugh at Gannon, because he appears truly mentally ill
No wonder Bush had no problem with Gannon being around; JimmyJeff is obviously delusional, something the two of them have in common.

Gannon raises my pity, more than anything else. He's a sad case.

9. Agree. In his case, the usual "up is down" neospeak
is downright alarming.

7. The interesting thing about this email
is what it reveals about JJGG's writing skills: i.e., he's practically illiterate. If one of my freshman comp students wrote a sentence like: "I commend members who recognized that a dangerous precedent might have been set were unfounded and partisan allegations been allowed to be used as a means to undermine the free press so essential to our democracy," I'd put it up on the overhead and make fun of it. And then to claim that he's part of a "free and independent press"--it's both hilarious and appalling.

10. I write embarrassing sentences when not in "edit" mode
but, you're right. This should have been the finished product.

My contention for several weeks now has been that more than one hand is generating much of his stuff. Over at Americablog, they've been entertaining the same question.

Which, in itself, ain't that important. More important, imo, is why no one has been noticing.

Sure Jiggy, you were part of a "free and independent press". LOL!!!

And you're a "journalist"...even though you never worked for any news organization but did volunteer work for GOPUSA. LOL!!!

Hey Jiggy, you're an IDIOT. Stick with the prostitution. At least you managed to get paid for that. ;)
