DU Petition - Shut the Senate Down
Senator Reid has threatened to shut down the Senate in response to the Corrupt and purely Partisan Agenda of the Republican Party. And, we the Undersigned want Reid to live up to his words and shut the Senate down.

(If you think Reid should be careful in regards to this or if you don't want Reid to shut the Senate down and you want him to do something else, please put a * at the beginning of your reply)

1. I think it's important to have that discussion
but Senator Reid should lay out some alternatives first.

I believe that he should put together a committee to explore whether or not there is an agenda, and subpoena every bastard out there and their little dogs too for a hearing.

He should run the hearing the same way that the HUAC hearings were run, and start throwing senators in jail for being in contempt of congress.

Unless we flex our political muscle in a way that's meaningful and actually draw blood, having a senatorial "sit in" isn't likely to have the effect we expect it to have. Republican senators will just grant themselves emergency powers and then all hell will really break loose.

2. !!
I believe fighting back is long overdue. Something should have been done after the theft of the 2000 elections.

This is a time to throw caution to the wind. Bush should not be opposed; he must be resisted.

12. They will use every parliamentary procedure at their disposal to delay
Yes, I think the GOP's "nuclear option" justifies that.

6. Agree. Right now the Senate and House Dems are useless they can't
get any amendments to bills, they can't investigate anything, and they might as well go home with the Repugs Block Voting.

It's important they do this to preserve the "Checks and Balances" we kids were all reassured by our teachers would never allow our coutry to become a Monarchy or Dictatorship.

The Repugs run all branches of our government. We have a complicit Main
Stream Media who won't cover any Democratic actions. There's nothing our Democrats can do. As Senator Byrd said about giving Bush War Power in the Debates: "We Dems might as well hang out a sign 'Gone Fishing' because we've given away our power to oversee."

Will our Dems do it, though? A massive walk out in both the House and Senate on the same day, would certainly send a strong signal. Shut the Goverment down. Take the abuse and cat calls from the Media. At least it might shock some sleeping American's into awarness of how desperate things are.

10. Drastic times deserve drastic measures....
I don't see any other choice. And, in that time I would like to see the truth being told everywhere. The congress won't investigate...let the dems do it. Fu*k them.

16. Yup
The other guys are the ones that said "Bipartisanship is date rape." Let's see how well they function on their own, in the full glory of their naked lust for power.

On a more practical level, it has recently been pointed out that it simply doesn't work for us to compromise on legislation. How many times have the Senate Democrats worked with the Repukes to mollify a really horrible piece of legislation, only to find themselves excluded from the conference committee, which in turn scratches out all our amendments and offers up the original toxic version. There's true "date rape" for you, and we need to stop giving it bipartisan cover.
