5. Just heard it on Fox News. They are talking about it now.
I'm looking at AP, CNN, as well as Fox sites but not an update yet. They just reported it on the news. I'll keep looking for when it is posted though.

10. Ha! It looks like it.
After all, only people capable of testifying can be called to testify. They don't call infants to testify against abusive parents. They use photos and medical records. They don't call on dogs and cats to testify against people accused of animal abuse. They use vet records. This is pure grandstanding, and that judge knows it.

These freaks think the laws against ordering hits on Federal witnesses will "protect" her.

Well, I don't think medical treatment has ever been compelled in a case like this one. After all, they won't be ordering or carrying out a hit. They will simply not be interfering with her natural and god given state.

3. yeah, they have to keep this going
They haven't made the connection between letting Terri Shivo die and how democrats support terrorism. No, that's not crazy and paranoid. Rush is trying his damndest on his show right now.

16. It never ceases to amaze me how this man, who knows he has made
some major mistakes, but continues to judge everyone. Also, the people that listen to him most of the time call in on Washington Journal every day and repeat verbatim (well, they try but their little brains just aren't up to some of the terminology) what he said the day before.

It's really sad sometimes to see how they struggle to sound intelligent.

I could scream sometimes.

14. Thanks Sentinel. Smart to look in the "Florida" news.
The thing about it is it sickens me that Tom DeLay and other Republicans are using this as a political ploy to play against the Democrats/Liberals and let the Religious Right (who think they own the world now) that they (Not verbatim quote)"She will not be forsaken over Easter Weekend" (tom delay).

However, it is a state decision . . . NO WAIT. It is her HUSBAND'S decision. It has been 15 years since this has been going on.

The Religious Right should be backing the Husband's choice because the Bible says that once you take a Husband and/or a Wife, you leave your mother and father.

Since it has been 15 years, it seems to me that this man still loves his wife. Yes, he has moved on with his life, met another woman, had two children; however, they claim he is wanting her to die so he can divorce her. That doesn't make sense to me at all for him to do it because of that.

It is SICKENING that this has turned into a political debate in our one-party-controlled Country. She doesn't look like a vegetable to me though. If she can breathe on her own, I think she should be left to see if anything can be done to help her. However, opinions are like a**holes, everybody's got one.

I believe in God. I read the Bible. I believe in Jesus Christ and have been saved and baptized. However, I am sick to death of this oh so Moral Majority, Religious Right, Rapture Right, and now news commentators are stuffing my own religion down my throat. They threaten politicians that they will lose their seats (Daschle being their always used example) if they do not vote the way they want. Now it seems that every news report has something about prayer, thanking God, praying . . . is this the political correctness now? Those of us that do not wear our religion or our beliefs on our soldiers, are we terrible people, because they sure make me feel like I'm going to Hell because I do not believe the way they do in some things.

OMG Now the judge on Fox News said he would have to change the decision because he believes "Miracles" can happen, and since "HE" believes in miracles, he would rule for her to stay the way she is and living the way she is.

I thought a judge had to rule by the law . . . not how they feel????

6. Congressional Republicans have no respect for the rule of law.
Edited on Fri Mar-18-05 01:52 PM by elperromagico
First, they try for an amendment to ban gay marriage because a judge in Massachusetts ruled it legal.

Now, they try to interfere in a judge's ruling that Schiavo's feeding tube may be removed.

What are they calling Terri Schiavo to Congress for? To testify? So they can stare at her?

Does anyone truly think that she would want to be seen in this state? Would any human being want to live this way, knowing they could never get better?

Oh, wait... I forgot. This isn't about her any more. It's about proving some sort of point about the value of life.

What about the value of living with dignity?

would have caused her tragic demise, enter DeLay the mourning widower...and his jolly life goes on. Money can do that for a person.

20. EXACTLY! I made this same point in another post!
I was thinking the SAME THING!

For example, down here in Dallas, Texas (Yes, a fiercely Red state - pray for me), an indigent African American woman gave birth to a profoundly disabled child. The child had no prognosis of living without life support. He had some rare form of dwarfism that caused his lungs to have zero capacity and he basically had no brain. The mother wanted to keep him alive. Baylor hospital (good Baptist folks) wanted to end life support b/c this lady didn't have any money, etc..

So, she went to court, lost and the child was removed from life support and died. It was probably the humane thing to do. But, the mother's attorney wondered why the Republican Right to Life Bandwagon didn't pick up on this and help her the way they are helping Terry Schiavo? I think we all know why -- indigent and African American causes aren't near and dear to Repubs looking for some press.

26. MSNBC Bioethicist Commentary on Terri Schiavo
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7231440/

<snip>
So, it is clear that the time has come to let Terri die. Not because everyone who is brain damaged should be allowed to die. Not because her quality of life is too poor for anyone to think it meaningful to go on. Not even because she costs a lot of money to continue to care for. Simply because her husband who loves her and has stuck by her for more than 15 years says she would not want to live the way she is living.

If Terri is allowed to starve to death what next? Undoubtedly there will be efforts to pass laws to prohibit feeding tubes from being taken away from others like Terri in the future. And there may even be efforts made to push right-to-die cases out of state courts and into federal courts. These are bad ideas.

We have had a consensus in this country that you have a right to refuse any and all medical care that you might not want. Christian Scientists do not have to accept medical care nor do Jehovah’s Witnesses need to accept blood transfusions or fundamentalist Protestants who would rather pray then get chemotherapy. Those who are disabled and cannot communicate have the exact same rights. Their closest family members have the power to speak for them.

The state courts of this country have the power to review termination of treatment cases and have done so with compassion, skill and wisdom for many years. Those who would change a system that has worked — and worked well for the millions of Americans who face the most difficult of medical decisions — should think very hard about whether Sen. Bill Frist, DeLay, Sen. Hillary Clinton, Bush, Sen. John Kerry or the governor of your state needs to be consulted before you and your doctor can decide that it is time to stop life-prolonging medical care.

If I have any show on at all, the commercials and the "news" updates that occur time and again...all Terri. Front of the paper? Terri. I run an animal rescue, and I'm getting e-mails from wackos spamming charities of all kinds asking us to help Terri. The radio? WTERI...all day. Evem my local public radio and Air America today. Terri.

Go to the supermarket and the talk of the produce section is the price of asparagus and Terri.

My heart goes out to everyone involved, cuz the whole situation sucks.
