1. This Is A Paid "Ad"
I think it's from Toomey's group...the one Stephen Moore ran...another GOOP shadow organization tied into the large media/money network that we almost started to unravel with "Gannon".

This is part of the corporate media's quid pro quo with this regime and its proxies to keep the money gravy train a 'rollin.

2. Isn't CNN one of the outlets that refused the UCC ad?
I could be wrong (hey, it's been known to happen), but didn't CNN refuse the United Church of Christ ad about welcoming gays and lesbians in their congregations? As I recall, the ostensible reason was that they didn't want to run "issue advocacy" ads that might affect the outcome of the election or pending legislation.

So now they're running Stupidhead's attack/scare ads? Lovely.

3. I've done some research on PFAVoterfund
Charlie Jarvis, as director of USANext, has been on a media blitz in his attempt to "swift boat" AARP.

He asserted on Inside Politics that USANext does not agree with AARP on one single issue:

"JARVIS: Well, first of all, AARP is the largest left liberal lobbying organization on the planet. And we stand against them on every single issue whether it's taxing Social Security benefits or Social Security personal accounts."

Here' s the transcript from that show: http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0502/23/ip.01.html

However, there is at least one issue that AARP and USANext agree on - supporting local phone competition.

1. See this document regarding USA Next's support of local phone competition: www.savecompetition.com/letters/ACUFCC_12_02.pdf
And this as well: http://www.forrelease.com/D20040609/dcw043.P2.06092004132412.04544.html

2. Now see this site, listing AARP Wisconsin as supporting local phone competition:

here's the link: http://www.wisconsincalls.org/7055-10.html

3. And now for the really strange part. What is the link between USA Next and PFAVoterfund.com? PFAVoterfund.com has been paying for and running a lot of pro-Bush Social Security ads on CNN. I am told that a reverse IP
address search on its web site indicates that all of the following web sites have the same IP address (I'm not sure what that even really means - does it mean that all of these web sites were created on the same physical computer - help on this appreciated):

My thought after a very quick look at these sites. Are they trying to mislead local communities by making it look like each of these efforts is a local grassroots effort, when it fact it is a massively coordinated and structured vehicle to further a radical national right-wing agenda?

I wonder what those parents who are taking advantage of support from the charter schools-realted sites would think of the College Sports Council sites, which advocate eliminating parity for women's sports? Any of those parents have daughters who are athletes? Sounds like a plan taken straight from the GOP play book - accuse the other side (in this case AARP) of misleading its members (which it is not doing) and them mislead your own members (hoping that if there's a counter-attack, the he-said-she-said debate will drown out both accusations).

4. And stranger still, the United for Jobs web site, an (anti-)environmental website, includes a reference to USA Next as one of its founding organizations:

here's the link - http://www.united4jobs.com/8040-10.html

about us

At no time in the last 150 years – through the great portion of America’s industrial age --has our air and water been cleaner. The wealth created by a free economy is producing health for its people by making pollution control measures more affordable.

But environmental policies don’t occur in a vacuum, and they are not without cost. Good policies will produce benefits commensurate or exceeding those costs. Bad policies not only can produce few benefits, but by taxing the economy may actually lead to a worsening natural environment.

This web site provides a one stop center for studies and analysis of environmental prescriptions affecting the economy and America’s well-being. By focusing on jobs, the coalition hopes to encourage citizens to decide for themselves whether the costs of proposed environmental regulations are worth their cost.

United for Jobs is a project of the National Black Chamber of Commerce, Small Business Survival Committee and USA Next, a grassroots organization of the United Seniors Association.

The project’s goal is to educate citizens about how key environmental proposals may impact jobs, nationally and in each state. Where the presidential candidates in this election year stand on those policies is part of that educational program.

THIS IS ALL SO WEIRD - DON'T KNOW WHAT TO MAKE OF IT.

4. Is it the "iceberg"?
I heard a thing about the ads, for and against, on NPR with that slash Marla Liasson.

The gist was that neither side was 100% accurate, but the ads by people against the plans tolds lies, but the ads for the plan just didn't tell the truth.

5. that discussion was with Brooks Jackson
of FactCheck.org, which is NOT a reliable arbiter of the truth, imo.

On the Social Security question they've been terrible, clearly slanted in Bush's favor.

One thing I'm not saying is that they don't post any pieces critical of Bush. I'm saying that their standards are not consistent, they try to impose a false balance which favors the huge Bush lies.

6. they're also airing MoveOn.org's great new ad
hilarious ad, with a scary picture of Cheney looming over and crushing the Capitol. :-)

CNN is a state sponsored media outlet, but it's not because they air that despicable iceberg ad.
