I've heard a lot of office talk the past few days, all of it 'Those Damn Democrats in Florida not wanting to help this poor woman'..

Mark this today, no matter HOW this turns out, they WILL use this against us in '06/'08

17. Yep
It's all political. Besides what power do we have? Remind people that we have no power and that's why we "don't care about life."

with people who would never vote for a dem anyway.

It will HELP us with people who are scared the government is going to crawl into their death-beds with them.

edit: The VAST majority of Americans would not wish to be kept alive in this situation. In fact, I posted a poll on this here a few weeks ago and the responses were 70 to 0 against remaining on life support. I'd venture that >85% of Americans would wish the same. This is not going to help Republicans, and we should NOT play along with their ghoulish fetish.

4. I don't think so Polls show otherwise
An AOL poll yesterday said 72% were against congress getting involved and almost 60% felt the decision was up to the husband. A poll that Nightline posted that was not an Internet poll had similar results. If anything it's the other way around.

5. No.
You cant run your life worrying about what some demon can use against you in the future.
You have to do whats right and let the consequences fall where they will.

It is wrong to use this woman as a political pawn. Leave her family alone and let them deal with it in peace.

But will someone please tell me when and how this became political? Why has Shrub's brother been involved and what exactly has been done by Democrats in regards to this mess? I feel horrible for all of that family but what has politics and the government to do with all of this? It is a family matter and from what I do know, she should be kept on life support and the rest of them done away with for all of this mess!

The only people who will remember will be those who wouldn't vote Dem in the first place.

The right to die issue is a serious loser for them. Polls tilt hard against keeping people alive if it is against their will.

If someone shoves a mike in our guys'/gals' mugs and wants a comment, let's make sure to remind everyone that reThugs hate marriage, they don't believe that the bond between husband and wife matters, and that the nanny state must always step in when it comes to personal decisions.

25. Dems should just stay out of it. It is between the Courts and
the Republicans.

The only thing the Dems did was try to keep the legislation passed in the Senate specific to this case instead of broad (like the House version).

I think it is a no win for the Democrats and they don't have any control anyway. Just stay out of it.

as long as we continue to act like weaklings.

On the Schiavo case, you would think the fundamentalist christians would be happy that Terri will be going home to be with the Lord and not have to be in her current state anymore.

Congress has no business in a private family matter. There's probably alot of people who are like Terri with families going thru the same legal battles because they didn't have living wills.

For republicans to single out this case is pathetic and beyond low.

Well, I kind of care since she's a human being. This is a RW political attack machine. Dems: leave it to the courts and stay out of it. Let the courts decide and let the RW do what they want with it. If we stay out of it, then it's up to them to find the bogey man. Stay out of it. I think Dems too often get pulled into the RW debates. Then we fight on their terms. Pick our battles and stay out of th staged media whorefest.

44. You can take two approaches to this problem
1)Ask them if they believe in the sanctity of marriage? If they say "yes," than ask they why they want to exclude her husband from the decision making process.

2) You could show them this story http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/front/3087387 (here is the link to the DU thread on this story: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x3294267)and ask them why the Republicans in Texas did nothing to help out a poor innocent baby.

any future votes I may have cast for them by prolonging this crap.

It's not that I think the husband is a saint by any means or that the parents aren't acting in the best interest of Terri "as they see it."

It's the blatant transparency and hypocrisy being displayed on a hourly basis by the whole right to life crowd and the hysteria they have reached over this one person when they would probably sneer at a panhandler and tell him to "get a job, bum" if they saw one a few blocks away from the hospice center.

I think the Republicans are going to discover down the road that they turned off more people than they brought to their side on this issue.

46. Schiavo may help us.
By pointing out that the "right to life" is deserved by everyone, we can make the case that denying health care to 45 million Americans is not only heartless, but violates the principles the Republicans claim to stand for. They can't have it both ways. If Terri hadn't had coverage to get the feeding tube put in, she would've been dead 12 years ago. How many Americans die every day because they're denied health care? I bet we'd be surprised. If the Republicans feel so strongly about this, they should ensure everyone has the chance to live.
