I say we should do a little research for all the existing Schiavo-like
cases and present them to the fundies and panderers in Congress. I am sure there are cases like the Schiavo case that happen all the time across this country. If these folks feel so damn certain that they need to perpetuate life indefinitely to somehow obtain God's grace, let them do it for all similar cases, not just the marquee ones that get all the press. And while were at it, lets make sure the bill for the care for these poor people gets sent to the Religious
Right, preferably to Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell and company. Let THEM pay for the expense of keeping these folks from a merciful death. Bet they'd change their tune on the issue damn quick if that happened.

2. I'm not going to second guess any family that can't let go
and sometimes they do need some time to come to terms with the fact that their loved one is gone and all that remains is a body.

However, enough is enough. I would support the establishment of ethics committees in hospitals composed of medical professionals, ethicists and yes, clergy to try to bring the family towards recognizing reality, and if they can't, overruling them.

If any bunch of fundies steps in and tries to force continued care, all bills should be forwarded to the fundies.

Being tortured over a period of years by the best medical care money can buy is my idea of hell on earth. An afterlife couldn't possibly be worse.
