Democrats Plan Social Security Campaigns
Democrats Plan Social Security Campaigns
By GLEN JOHNSON, Associated Press Writer

Friday, March 18, 2005

(03-18) 14:13 PST WASHINGTON, (AP) --

Democrats are taking President Bush up on his suggestion to spend Congress' two-week recess talking to folks in the heartland about Social Security. Some plan to venture into Republican-held districts to do it.

Republicans, after raucous earlier town hall meetings, are more wary.

"The president has a lot of equity. He is a committed human being. However, this may be the toughest `ask' he has sent over here in his four years for Republicans," Rep. Zach Wamp, R-Tenn., said of Bush's Social Security proposal.

Democrats on the House Ways and Means Committee are being dispatched to the districts of Republicans who have signaled concerns about Bush's plan to let younger workers divert some of the Social Security taxes into personal retirement accounts. Rep. Richard E. Neal, D-Mass., for example has been asked to visit Colorado, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.

2. I attended my rep's town hall meeting on SS
a few weeks ago, and the crowd was raucous. They were totally againat the plan, but there was one freeper who kept trying to disrupt. It's important to attend these, and to make your voice heard. I'm the quiet type, but I cheered and made noise and made sure they knew where I was coming from. It's important for us to balance out any freepers who might attend.

6. Why would any sane person be for it?
Maybe that freeper is hoping to retire off of his inheritance and doesn't want to contribute to the well being of his fellow Americans. Selfish, selfish, selfish.

That explains some of them, but what about the working class freeper? Why in the name of sanity would THEY be in favor of dismantling Social Security. Do they want to be street people in their golden years? Why do they hate old people?

5. Why the hell do Democrats always let Republicans dictate the agenda?
Republicans can ALWAYS get their talking points on the news, yet HUGE Democrat issues like white-house propaganda and stolen elections get NOTHING! I'm still waiting for the Dems to grow a spine. Grrr.
