Republican freepers ready for that draft Bush said he wouldn't have?
WASHINGTON — The Army’s vice chief of staff says he’s been losing sleep lately over the future of the all-volunteer force.

“What keeps me awake at night is what this all-volunteer force will look like in 2007,” Gen. Richard Cody told lawmakers recently on Capital Hill.
It’s a concern others should share, he says.

“I think it ought to keep all of you awake,” he told a gathering of reporters Wednesday.

Nearly 31 years since it replaced the draft Army of both world wars, Korea and Vietnam, the all-volunteer force is facing its first real test, Cody said.

5. Combat units are HURTING for personnel.
Many line units have consolidated from three platoons to two. This means a lot more work and stress for those two platoons. There is no relief in sight as recruiting is WAY down, and the freepers are not flocking to join up.

First, the rest of the IRR will be activated. Then there will be conscription. Some incident will be cooked up to "change everything" again and give the neocons an excuse.

17. Good lord, this is insane
Could you point me to some website that have information about units being so undermanned, they are doing as your post says?
The planning that went into the Iraqi invasion has to be the worst in US history. Even the really bad job of planning that went into the invasion of Grenada can wasn't this bad.
I think Bush is a war criminal. In 1946, the WWII allies hanged Germans for doing the same thing Bush, Cheney, Rummie did in Iraq. Since the US is the biggest bully on the block, chimpie ever need worry about a bad trip to the Hague. Aside from the war crimes issue, I think Rumsfield and the planners of this atrocity ought to be tried in American court for criminal negligence. 1500 Americans are dead, because of WMDs that didn't exist, an imminent threat that wasn't imminent and a connection to AlQaeda that didn't exist. The evidence of the Administrations gross incompetence is hidden in a Senate Report that Pat Roberts and his cohorts won't release.
Fifty years from now, history is going to be harder on chimpie and his criminal gang that it is now on McNamara and Vietnam.

6. The lesson to be learned is that
You can not use an all volunteer force to murder innocent people.

Since thats what Bush's only real goal is in Iraq of course the voluntary military will be hurt. Americans will not accept a draft it will make Vietnam's resistance look like the WW2 resistance post pearl harbor.

22. It is quite telling I think
After 9/11 happened TONS of people joined the military to get revenge. Then the whole Iraq thing happened and people joined again. Now that people are (hopefully) learning the truth about this whole "war" people aren't joining but yet the republicans shout out the military is fine and not declining. :eyes: Something will happen to make people join again is what I'm afraid of.

7. We're a few months into '05 and he is mentioning'07. I've seen
that more and more the recruiters are having young people "just say no" and I'm curious about how long the training would be. And why '07.

Besides if all of those Bush** supporters would sign up a draft would be kept at bay for a while. Goodness knows there were enough of them around here.

16. Good point. I still would like to know how long the training time
would be. I don't remember the timespan involved from the time someone was drafted in the VietNam era until he was trained and ready to be shipped off.

I have a 15 yr. old.

I don't know how one could be trained in such a short period of time.

Now that I've crapped myself, please excuse me while I go change.
