Turnip Truck Democrats
I'm amazed ... and somewhat alarmed ... at the innocent attitudes of Democrats who don't believe a presidential candidate from our own party would lie to us. John Kerry's tale of getting three purple hearts and putting in for a transfer out of combat is a case in point. I'm amazed at the number of people who take that story at face value. Maybe they believe John wouldn't say it if it weren't true. It's as if a Democrat never lied to them! Did they fall off a turnip truck?

The story continues .... We are told, for example, that after only four months in combat, Kerry requested a transfer as an admiral's aide "somewhere on the East Coast" - and the request was granted! By an amazing coincidence, it just so happened that an admiral in New York had put in a personnel request that a young officer be assigned to him. And they lived happily ever after.

Here's a question: Is the admiral still around? If he is, I wonder if he tells people that it happened just the way John Kerry says it did. Maybe he does. But it's worth it to find out, doncha think?

Maybe you should consider a thread called "Turn Coat Democrats", and then just provide your bio.

7. The More Interesting Idea
The more interesting idea is the possibility that Kerry's purple hearts may have been awarded for injuries sustained from friendly fire, when there wasn't a Viet Cong around for miles. Kerry's commanding officer admits that no thought went into awarding the purple heart. Because the unit enforced "free fire zones" it's quite likely that many discretionary targets weren't enemy at all, but Vietnamese civilians. This creates the possibility that Kerry's already not-quite-earned purple hearts were even more flimsily justified than we thought.

Still, they got him out of the war, which is the important thing. And I have to agree, it's ungenerous to quibble about it after all these years. Besides, who knows what really happened? I feel better already.

4. We get it.
A thread every 24 hours on the topic makes sure that we do. Without links (though repeatedly requested) you make the same assertions over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. When others read the same information (from general sources, since the ones that are used in these threads are never linked), their opinions are deemed invalid compared to the poster who clearly has superior knowledge - though the basis of the claims are never documented, just claimed over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

Odd thing is - that by now - many of the people responding are not even the die hard Kerry fans. Just those of us really tired by the tactics of smear, of hostile notes with absolutely no documented basis. Without facts in evidence it appears (again) just to be an opinion. We are all entitled to opinions. But when we force our opinions upon other people as objective fact, but while continually refusing to submit factual documentation to verify if, it appears to simply be a very stronly held opinion.

How many more threads need to be started to make this same assertion? How many folks have been persuaded by the multiple posts on this topic? How many undecided have become more negative because they have been pursuaded be the multiple posts on this topic?
