I get so tired of hearing Dubya say, "The American people want ..."
He really means he wants ..., and hasn't a clue what the American people really want, nor does he care. What he wants is not usually what I want, that's for sure.
He only makes appearances where he is sure there won't be any dissention. How sure can you be when you make a speech for the military? Pretty darn sure. Those guys would get court marshalled if they even asked the wrong question in the presence of His Royal Majesty George the 43rd. He does not tolerate anyone disagreeing with him, surrounds himself with "yes men," and hasn't a clue nor a concern about what the rest of this country wants. So the next time you hear Dubya say, "The American people wanted to go to war," or the American people wanted him to live in the White House, try to keep your lunch down -- he really believes it.
