The reason for high gas prices is the countries that own it jack up the price. Using this train of thought, the people of the USA should be able to buy the Alaska oil at a much, much cheaper rate because we own it.

Right?

By the way, I'm being sarcastic.

1. No. Due to the distance, it will most likely be sold to China and
Japan for more profit.

2. actually ....
sorry to break it to you, but the ANWR oil will be sold to japan and china cause of the low grade quality, so bush and cheney and the oil companies will be the only ones benefiting from it.

3. Alaskan oil is already cheaper because it is of a lower grade.
It usually sells for a couple a dollars less a barrel than OPEC oil...For most of the time the oil pipeline has been in place the oil was sold only to America. That was changed a few years back so Alaska could get more for it's product. It took an act of congress to change it though....

5. Ha ha ha, you're a real funny guy.
Once they rape Alaska for that 6 month supply, they'll sell it to Japan.
We get nothing but a ruined national reserve.

7. It's funny (tragic) when you think of it
Ten years from now, which is the timeline when the oil is supposed to be available, there may not even be an oil crisis. We could have a change in administrations (hopefully) and a change in our habits. Conservation could completely eliminate the need for the oil. Even then it is said to be only a 6 month supply. Not much oil to be noticed, much less enough to be bargained with.

10. "Being Caribou"
Went to a viewing of this beautiful and heartwrenching film two nights ago. A Canadian couple followed the Porcupine Caribou herd for 5 months during their annual migration to and from their calving grounds.

They let the caribou guide them through a wild and remote landscape, from the central Yukon to coastal Alaska and back. During the five-month journey, they ski and hike acrosss mountains, swim icy rivers, brave Arctic weather and endure hordes of mosquitoes. They survive an encounter with a hungry grizzly bear that forces them to reconcile what it means to be a part of true wilderness. Hunger, fatigue and pain become routine, but the sacrifice is worth it when they witness the miracle of birth just metres from their tent.

...At stake is the herds's delicate habitat, which could be devastated if proposed oil and gas development goes ahead in the herd's calving grounds in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

11. What planet are you from. It will be dug and mined and sold in the
next two years..while oil prices are high.

Why would you expect a discount... Opec is a cartel outside the USA so it is legal... like torture.
