ok, now I really don't get it.
I thought that Henry Rollins was almost "randian" as in Ayn Rand. Has there been a radical shift over to the left wing?

We are each other's keepers. I really believe that now. The older I get, the more I see I got to be looking out for people around me. Not just helping the old lady up the stairs with the grocery, and not taking a two-by-four to the Klansman's head, which would have occurred to me when I was 20. Now, my approach will be that we can't get to him, but let's get to his kids. We can infect the kids with this idea of racial equality and mercy.

This is the kind of enlightment that people pray for...or is he a
"liar"?

1. "traditional" lines become blurred...
...and present circumstances make easy labels obsolete and counter-productive...

2. I don;t see this as a contradiction
Yeah, he's always touted the notion of self-sufficiency (and self-reposnsibility), but I don't think he's ever been a foe of racial equality and mercy; hell, he was a huge Bad Brains fan. And, as far as the "we are each other's keepers," SST was practically a hippie commune the way it was run.

3. It's called "maturity"--Ayn Rand appeals because of her
seeming logic. What's really true is not logical, it's paradoxical.

That's why she rejects Christianity--"how can the perfect die for the imperfect . . . how can the divine sacrifice himself for the mundane and mortal?" I heard her say once. Well, she didn't say it as well as I phrased it, but you get the idea.

After you get a few years under your belt, you realize that real fufillment never comes from simply satisfying the self . . . it comes from the feeling that you're helping or at least trying to help.

4. I have other better logic
I'm a Progressive for purely selfish reasons:D

If a person has what they need and can make their life better then that same person won't be out on the street robbing people or murdering people for money.

Poverty is the leading cause of crime.
